The fact that I have to stress at ALL about my Pressure Plate fitting this ******* thing is ridiculous.

It says RIGHT ON THE WEBSITE that any stock or aftermarket clutch WILL suit.

My Racing Beat Race Pressure Plate is an EXACT stock plate replacement, and it fits completely fine on the stock flywheel.

The arms do NOT clear the lip on this tweakit.net 12lb flywheel.

Increased engine braking, great for circuit racing, autocross, rally......

Also available in SuperLight version.

Nitriding available for increased hardness. (Recommended when used with Brass Button style clutch assemblies)

Suit factory or aftermarket clutches.

Use with your ring gear. If you don't have a good ring gear and have no luck sourcing it locally, we can supply brand new ring gear fitted to the flywheel.

The factory flywheel has a part carved out of the flywheel to act as the necessary counterweight. So, you'll need the counterweight from an automatic 12A for 12A engines, or automatic 13B for 13B engines, as the manual doesn't use a counterweight standard.

ColinRX7 06-06-2004 02:59 PM

Am I suppost to use different bolts and washers to raise the section that doesn't clear?

WHAT IS THE PROBLEM.

I notified the guy I dealt with when I purchased the thing but I have yet to hear back.

WHEN IT IS LISTED THAT A STOCK CLUTCH WILL SUIT WHY AM I GOING THOUGH THIS ****

I NEED TO DRIVE MY ******* CAR

mazdaspeed7 06-06-2004 03:14 PM

Ill post the details later, but that flywheel is made for the pre-83 12A, which uses a different pressure plate than the later ones, which are all interchangable.

ColinRX7 06-06-2004 03:17 PM

Which you would assume they would be sure of before they ADVERTISE THAT IT WILL WORK JUST FINE ON 86+ SERIES 4 and 5, 6-PORT MOTORS?!

1Revvin7 06-06-2004 05:14 PM

Yea I knew something was funny about those.

ColinRX7 06-06-2004 05:17 PM

I'm sure it's a quality product, but unfortunately they DONT FIT stock later model pressure plates as ADVERTISED.

Fluid Dynamics 06-06-2004 07:11 PM

That sux, and they suck for not answering your query.

ColinRX7 06-06-2004 07:28 PM

Well I just emailed them hours ago.

I wouldn't expect to hear anything yet. I emailed them at the time I started this thread.

ColinRX7 06-06-2004 07:30 PM

BIG THANKS TO ROGER!

He helped me out with a pressure plate he had from his oldschool 13B 4 port that mated to a lightweight flywheel on that motor.

The one he gave me works, because it's for an oldschool 13B 4 port (from 70s RX4/REPU?), I think it also works on 12As.

BUT OEM FC3S CLUTCH PRESSURE PLATES DO NOT WORK WITH THIS FLYWHEEL!

YOU HAVE ALL BEEN WARNED!

mazdaspeed7 06-06-2004 07:49 PM

Just to clarify, all 83+ 225 mm pressure plates wont work.

ColinRX7 06-07-2004 08:17 AM

From tweakit.net:

We supplied the flywheel to suit the 12A/13B 4-port/13B 6-port gearbox which

comes with the non-turbo engine for all non-turbo RX-7s upto including gen

2. The only other type of gearbox likely to be fitted is the gen 2 Turbo

gearbox. The turbo gearbox requires a 9.5" clutch and the 12A/13B 4port/13B

6port all use the 8.5" clutch.

phinsup 06-07-2004 08:23 AM

Yea I don't think I've ever seen a pressure plate with a lip on it like that, I'm still a bit whoozy from all the beer, but I can't recall seeing a lip like that on any flywheel I've ever slapped in, pretty much all of them run the face all the way to the edge as I recall.

ColinRX7 06-07-2004 08:31 AM

I replied to him again clarifying the situation and summed up all the points brought up in this thread.

LOL

You have done more work on turbo cars though haven't you? They are different from stock N/A stuff.

I got a pressure plate from Roger, and his oldschool 13B 4 port had a light flywheel too, it looks exactly the same as mine (which is why the clutch pressure plate works).

The plates are much different from stock S4 and S5 stuff that we compared while we were there.

There's no way a stock S4 or S5 N/A clutch will work with this thing.

Edit: The clutch DISCS will work just fine, but the pressure plates do NOT.

I've done NA adn the GSL-SE, but I haven;t done one on a 12a even though I've owned them.

ColinRX7 06-08-2004 08:50 PM

Mike said he looked at his RB lightweight but I wasn't around to talk to him about it so I hope he posts something..

I was actually at my garage snapping pics.. Roger has got the pressure plate I was going to use so I couldn't shoot reference pictures..

I'll do the best I can to illustrate..

ColinRX7 06-08-2004 08:56 PM

This is a clutch pressure plate from a carbed 4 port 13B that goes into a REPU/RX4 (as is my understanding)

j9fd3s 06-08-2004 08:59 PM

my rb flywheel has a small cutout right there to clear the spring on the pressure plate. it also runs spacers between the pp and the flywheel

ColinRX7 06-08-2004 09:03 PM

The Old style plate has the arms BACK so they clear the lip

The stock S4/S5 flywheel has CUTAWAYS in the flywheel lip to clear the arms of the pressure plate because the S4/S5 pressure plate arms are FLUSH with the friction surface and the old style they are NOT

Here is what I mean

PRECICELY!!!

ColinRX7 06-08-2004 09:05 PM

Excuse my swearing in my first few posts..

I have been seriously stressed trying to get this car together then the clutch not fitting really threw me off the handle.. I started this thread before I had a chance to cool down... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

ColinRX7 06-08-2004 11:29 PM

Naturally I was worried about other things as well now!!

I bolted a transmission to the motor, layed it down flat, and tested the starter to make sure it was hitting the flywheel ring gear just fine and cranking over.

No problems there. Starter motor works flawlessly with the flywheel.. As it should be! But can you blame me for testing before installing the damn motor?! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

j9fd3s 06-09-2004 12:42 AM

um i'm gonna say no?

ColinRX7 06-09-2004 08:16 AM

Mike! Can you say off hand if your pressure plate from your RB flywheel is 8.5" or 9.5"? It's for an N/A right?

j9fd3s 06-09-2004 03:58 PM

its a racing beat 225mm, the flywheel is 225mm racing beat aluminum (s4 cw), it came out of my gsl-se, it had been there since 91

ColinRX7 06-11-2004 08:19 AM

Tweakit.net appologized for the inconveniece and gave thanks for the information provided..

They mentioned perhaps the aussie pressure plates are different? I don't know about that..

j9fd3s 06-11-2004 09:06 AM

pn for the 84-88 13b pp is n304-16-410

ColinRX7 06-11-2004 07:06 PM

The one I used is from the 70s.. Is there one part number for pp's from the 70s 13B motors?

Jeremy changed the website after another fitting issue complaint I had notified him about.

Very great and understanding guy to deal with. This has been the only flaw about my interaction with tweakit, but it's been addressed and shouldn't happen again considering the ads have been changed.
