I live in maine so i took my car off the road for the winter but now it wont start....it has power and will turn over just wont fully start...is it because of the cold weather or would it be somethign else?

Turbonut 01-16-2004 12:54 PM

If the car has been sitting in the cold for a while the seals have a tendency to retract from the housing a/c weak springs. Low compression is not allowing the car to start. I bought my TII new, and if I didn't start it every couple of weeks in the winter I wouldn't be able to get it started without the addition of ATF. It was like this for 8 years. After getting it started and warmed up it was fine. Had the engine replaced in 2002, not because of this problem, but a seal cracked at 155,000 miles.

whats a ATF? prob a stupid question but i dont think i know what it is??

he means automatic transmission fluid, don't use that method if you consider adding something to help the seals seal.

MMO - marvels mystery oil is a much better solution for this, it won't clog your cats like ATF will.

does the car crank faster than usual when you try to start it?

you put it in the combustion chambers, usually through the spark plug holes. It's used to help build compression if the seals are sticking or the engine is flooded.

I sugest you toe it and bump it in second, I have recently had the same problem. i came to the conclusion that if the starter is running it would reduce the Spark (or the power to it) Toeing is good as you will be able to spin the engine quicker as well.

The more you try to start it the more flooded it gets also putting to much ATF wont help ether, all it will do is foul the plugs up.

try unflooding it first, then try starting it again.
