What turbo timer do you all like the most. I was looking at the Apexi one. good price and features

j9fd3s 05-07-2003 03:00 PM

ok, except for the theme song and lights they are bascially all the same, except the hks one is too complex to actually time the turbo

i wanna be i wanna be like mike....wait im mike... i am like mike!

i have apexi...i guess i like the features, i had the blitz datt on my mr2 its good too....i wish they made a 20 dollar TT that just timed down the car, no functions or anything, i would buy that

but you pay for the functions...they all have dif ones ... apexi - o2 and a/f .... blitz fatt - temp, volt, some other **** ....blitz datt - boost gauge .... then theres some otehres

amp 05-07-2003 04:59 PM

no need for em imho..

outside of the extras.. you can essentially just wait to shutdown manually..

FrestyleFC3S 05-07-2003 05:06 PM

thats a good answer too...i however am always late - so i can wait 3 mins to let my car warmdown

but if you dont mind waiting then dont bother

rx7machine 05-07-2003 05:26 PM

Yea, having a turbo timer would be nice.. damn the wait.. cause I'm always late too.. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif

j9fd3s 05-07-2003 06:16 PM

well since the fc has a water cooled turbo 30 seconds is all you need to turbo time it

mike

GarageBoy 05-07-2003 06:37 PM

HKS looks cool, but is a tad complicated

Rotaryman88 05-07-2003 09:04 PM

Did you not like my GReddy one? lol..is this for keiths car we're talkin about...?? I'll throw a battery in the SE-X next time ur over and show ya the turbo timer's features...GReddy's has most of the same features as the APEXi one...

1Revvin7 05-07-2003 09:09 PM

Hey have any of you guys used the e-brake function???? how the hell do you install it, I have the apexi unit. Hijacked!

Rotaryman88 05-07-2003 09:20 PM

I'm not sure on the APEXi unit...but the GReddy was really simple..just one wire that you could solder into the existing ebrake wire...but thats greddy...

FrestyleFC3S 05-07-2003 11:46 PM

yea its all the same....theres a little wire that you solder, splice, tconnect whatever and get them together....so now whenever the BRAKE light is on the ttimer will stay on, but when its taken down the car turns off because the power to the timer is killed.....i baby my car so i let it have 3 minutes....not necessary? oh well...

j9fd3s 05-08-2003 10:56 AM

i put an oil temp guage on my fd, and the temps were highest when it was turbo timing.

75 Repu 05-08-2003 11:00 AM

I heard it is Just better to take it easy on the car when you are getting close to the destination, since it cools more while you are driving..

FrestyleFC3S 05-08-2003 11:43 AM

theyre highest when its timing down becuase its idling and not moving, its not transfering any load between anything just sitting there idling.......

j9fd3s 05-08-2003 12:14 PM

the oil coolers have no fan, so they dont do much when you arent moving

ah true true!

Turbo II 05-08-2003 04:48 PM

i had the hks, very simple. and i was wondering how u wire the ebrake function. sounded pretty cool

rmaiersg 05-08-2003 05:31 PM

I bought an old school HKS timer from a friend for $20, looked like new. It just had the timer function on it. Served it's purpose. I had trouble with getting to school so I had to run to class a lot to beat the bell. 30 sec cool down was not an option. Plus people were like "whoa, your car is still running" I'd be like oh yeah!" and they'd be like "AWESOME." ...whatever.

It may help to some how maker the engine idle at like 1500 rpm instead of 750 because the pulley doesn't move fast enough to flow the water as well as it should. I could tell cruising last summer, especially with A/C, that when in traffic, for instance, the water temp would rise a little but if I held the engine at a slightly higher RPM it cooled down a little. Maybe this applies to the oil pump too.

RX7Aggie 05-10-2003 11:40 PM

yeah, i have GReddy, works great. people are always like "is that your cell phone" when i start her up, and say "wow, your car is like knight rider" when it still runs. its cool, and i HATE just sitting in the car as it cools down. GReddy has a good feature where the longer you drive it over 3K rpm, the longer it cools down, up to 5 min.

as for the e-brake, i wouldn't trust it. you know mazda's, how much can you trust the electical wiring and the ebrake sensor? not me, i dont know if my mechanic ever hooked min up or if the ebrake sensor even works. either way, its only a safety feature. heck, if someone is going to steal my car with the timer on, they better get some place real quick in under 1 min, lol, because that's all she's good for. they will probably just thinks it's out of gas and leave it on the side of the road, LOL.

FrestyleFC3S 05-11-2003 01:02 AM

yea i used to use the ebrake function...but then i realised a very important things...two actually

ONE - the car WILL turn off withing minutes

TWO - they will have to go in a straight line, so forget about leaving a parking spot, no key = wheel is locked
