well i was thinking about selling my car and gettiung a turbo 7 but.... its going to be awhile before i could get it looking anythin like my car is now

i was speaking to a guy from turbo tronics and he was telling me since i have a pretty new engine i should turbo the engine i have now instead of either getting a new car or even the whole t2 swap (engine, tranny, read end,ecu ect.) that would also be a huge hastle

so i wanted to know does anyone here or anyone know of someone that has done this???

just turbo the engine they have already(port an polish 90 NA engine)???

someone will probably respond with, "the n/a rotors had higher compression, so detonation will happen" or something like that, so I would like to add another quesiton:

if that's the case, then why can you keep turning up the boost on a turbo, just as long as the components can handle the pressure?

it has been done before, corky bell had a kit back in the 80's. there are 2 ways to do it

1. adapt an fc turbo on, http://www.aaroncake.net/RX-7/naturbo.htm

2. put a full t04 on a custom manifold, ala corky bell

either way is about the same cost and work to do. the higher compression means that the tuning is a little more critical, and the s5 na might be too high (9.7:1 vs 9 for the real turbos)

The site linked above is great...I followed his project for a while when i was on the "other forum". It can be done. Besides tapping an oil return source, and getting a spacer for the manifold(if u use a stock turbo & manifold from a t2)...I dont think its much harder. Going with an IC and some good fuel controlling parts will be much needed as well...good luck, and let me know. I wanted to do this a long time ago, but changed my mind...

Also I'm sure this in the faq's section, but I'm sure someone on here can you show a picture of a n/a rear end, that was mated to a turbo engine.

well theres a couple things he could have saved effort on. one being the return line, the holes are in the na front cover just not drilled. the other is he did all that work for a stock turbo, it would have been the same amount of effort to make a custom manifold

Some times, time and money is an issue. I might do the smae thing if i get another FC. I have a spare turbo and IC. should be fun

if you want it to last you need the TII drivetrain too. I say just get a jspec turbo engine, it would cost a lot less than even just a turbo. I just got done installing a TII engine/drivetrain in a friend's 87 se, and we did it for about $1300. New turbos can cost upwards of $3000.

CrazyAssRX7 04-12-2003 09:29 AM

whoa...

id you say it only cost you 1300?

because if it did help me out here

i was thinking about doing that too

switching the engine, tranny, clutch, flywheel, driveshaft, rear end and then i heard you have to change the that strter also, with the install and getting everything its going to ge way more than 1300

my friends cost him a lil over 4 k to do
