Okay so I finished the FMIC. While cruising i noticed that the turbo boosted like 10 psi but after a few seconds it dropped to 8. What's up with that? It needs a rebuild soon. But before the FMIC it was making like 10-15 psi.

Gotta leak somewhere?

FrestyleFC3S 07-28-2003 01:24 AM

lee...gotta means got to....got a means have a

get it right

and yea it sounds like it could be a leak somewhere but thats weird to go up and then down

btw ---- you have any news on that short shifter i asked about a whileeee ago

1Revvin7 07-28-2003 01:58 AM

Up and Down indicates a boost leak.

rmaiersg 07-28-2003 02:26 PM

Okay, I shall inspect the tubing this evening.

Thanks

you will notice pressure drop from your FMIC in other words. turbo puts out 10 psi but when it gets to the manifold you are down to 6-8 psi..... it doesn't matter on large turbos but the top mount was there for a reason no pressure drop

UniqueTII 07-28-2003 03:05 PM

Yeah, the stock turbo can't fill up a larger IC very well.

j9fd3s 07-28-2003 04:05 PM

yah if it had a boost leak and the stock ecu it woudnt idle either, i like voskos answer

That makes more sense. The air is cooler so it has less pressure correct?

vosko 07-28-2003 06:43 PM

actually colder air is denser so it would have more pressure

the stock turbo isn't efficient at anything above 11 psi i find.

even with top mount, the boost would spike to 11 psi and it would kinda hold at 11 till around 5000 rpm when it starts to trail off and i end up at around 9 to 9.5 psi at redline.

judge ito said if you crank it past 10 psi they crap out very quickly..... he used to go thru quite a few when his rx truck had stock turbo on it lol

I worked on an eclipse with a big greddy front moutn and stock turbo. Same problem, coun't hold boost, especially at high rpm.The turbo was too small to make up for the pressure drop.

my friend blew up 2 stock turbos, trying to run 15psi

mike

not true, some leaks only open up above certain PSI, weirdness of turbo cars

heh.... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/tongue.png

I've been running .8bar on my turbo II for the last year or so. Put down 232 rwhp@11 pounds, and the turbo is still in pretty good condition.
