I have come across a S5 Turbo II motor with a computer and uncut wire harness with some extra work done to it. The problem is that I have an 87 N/A. I tried to research this tpic, but have come up with inconclusive information. What I would like to know is how difficult is this swap (the only consistant thing that I read about doing this swap is that it is a pain)? I am mechanically inclined an am willing to do this because the motor is a really good deal. Any information you guys can put in will be appreciated. I would really like to hear from the guys who have done this swap, not just the hearsay people. Also, if you know of a link that would assist me in this process, lease post it up. Thanks.

Dont flame me for asking, but am I able to use the S5 ECU to control the engine and keep the S4 ECU to control the rest of the car? Thanks.

Chris,



No. Thats to answer your question about two ECU's being used at once.



It will be best to completely swap both wire harnesses if you can manage it. The problem with doing a complete motor swap is in the wire harnesses obviously. The harness plugs changed between the S4's and the S5's. The injectors, MAF, MAP, Alt, everything basically has different plugins between the years. This is actually a pretty hard question to answer because we dont know what kind of accessories you are planning on running such as A/C or Power Steering.



I can tell you from experience doing THIS swap that it is not easy or inexpensive because just when you think you have everything working right something else goes wrong. Just make sure you have everything the first time to make things go smoothly. I would even recommend an overhaul to save you from having to take the motor out once you get it in later on down the road. Its just worth it imo.
