So I got the intake and exhaust manifolds off and some other stuff. Is there a write-up on how to remove the ratsnest so it could aid in putting all the hoses back? And on my intake manifold there are two smaller holes for coolant or something and the left hole is blocked really bad, and I found the turbo gasket was blown and not the manifold gasket. would anything like that cause low compression or is it just the apex seals?

Also, what would be the best degreaser to take off all the old gasket material and dirt off the manifolds to make them shiny?

As far as old gasket a razor blade and alot of patience. after you got the bulk off you can take a wire brush to it. Same goes for the manifolds A little formula 88 and a wire brush will do marvels on the manifolds.

Patience Is Key!

What are the causes of low compression? I took the exhaust and intake off, and felt inside and the apex seals feel like new! I also found the lower intake has a block in one of the coolant passages, is that supposed to be there? Its like aluminum or something.

Could be a side seal. How did you do the compression test?

I took out the top two plugs, cut the ignition and fuel, put the compression tester in and held that button while another person held the gas down and cranked it. It had 72 on rear and 95 on front.

So I am getting all my parts put back together, and getting all the right bolts. I got like 10 ft. of vacuum hose to replace all mine also. Are the injectors in a n/a the same as the Turbo II? My sec. were messed up. And how long do the turbos last on these things, since they are oil and water cooled with the oil cooler? And I might even need a diagram for the vaccum hoses on the top of the engine.
