A common practice for turbo motors is running a DUMP pipe with no muffler at all. I did this on my Turbo Supra and the exhaust note was streetable.

Is this the case with a Rotary? Does the Turbocharger quiet the exhaust enough to make it streetable?

vosko 07-16-2002 01:08 AM

NO!

Rotarydragon 07-16-2002 09:21 AM

AHHH MY EARS!

No it'll be toooo loud.

vosko 07-16-2002 09:45 AM

if your on highspeed. download this video

http://www.vosko.net/media/t2burnout-1.avi i think. if you can't get it direct goto http://www.vosko.net/media/ and download my TII video's. with a N1 muffler my car is still VERY VERY VERY loud !

Turbo II 07-16-2002 12:35 PM

mine isnt that loud. Not unless ur read lining the whole time

dac 07-16-2002 07:02 PM

Vosko, it didn't seem that loud... maybe I'd deaf. Nice burnout though.

vosko 07-16-2002 10:21 PM

NOT THAT LOUD jeez...... that sucker is very loud! LOL

Infini IV 07-16-2002 10:33 PM

Vosko, you should film a video of someone talking next to your car idling or revving. That way it is a whole lot easier to tell how loud it is. Nice burnout btw. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

dac 07-16-2002 10:54 PM

Well it seems to echo but I thought that was just the location. I don't think one can get a good feel for how loud it is from the vid. Very Nice burnout.

Nice collection of vids. I love the 20B hauling ass down the track... even though the track appears to downhill. That ride sounds sweet.

turbo dan 07-16-2002 11:14 PM

I just drove mine around the block Saturday night with just the downpipe on and it is LOUD. God is it LOUD.

I've heard open header drag cars that were quieter.

i drove my OLD 87 TII WITH NO EXHAUST not even the downpipe, all it had was the exhaust manifold. dear god it rattled the ground! the car was fast hell and blowing 5 foot flames under the car was amusing. mufflers on rotaries = good

well, i drove my car today to work for the first time inabout 2 weeks. And yeah it is loud, sorry must have gotten used to driving my trailblazer. I have 3" downpipe -> 3" Glass Pack -> 3" Apex Exhaust (Tip is about 5 1/2") Just play your radio loud and u wont even hear ur exhaust. Thats what I did this morning.

What are you getting, full turbo back?

phinsup 07-17-2002 08:02 PM

No it's already installed, well actually un-installed, I have heard it, just not under load as the clutch was bad on the new AE. It's 3 inch or rather 20mmm TurboII exhaust with racing beat mufflers, pretty sure from looking at the pics that the drop down is RB and the Y-pipe is RB, but the section which contains the soon to be removed cat is a custom little jobber.

Are you going to get the 3" presilencer?

phinsup 07-17-2002 08:43 PM

that was my eventual plan, right now I am going to toss it back on as I am short on cash until I get the 84 sold. I had the RB downpipe with presilencer on my vert and it was still one loud ass fugger.

You're probably better off making a midpipe. 2 3" flanges and some 3" piping will do the job. The presilncer is pretty expensive.

phinsup 07-17-2002 09:05 PM

not worth it? Hell if that is the case I can run it up to the exhaust shop while I am putting the tranny back in on Saturday and go ahead and 86 the air pump and the cat.

Yeah, the midpipe should be much cheaper to make. I have a 3" presilencer, but I probably want to keep it. I'm not sure yet.

vosko 07-18-2002 12:45 AM

i have a *custom* midpipe on my TII. from my RB downpipe to my N1 catback https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

It can be hard to find a muffler shop to do that for you I had a hell of a time getting a shop to bend/weld pipe for my **** on the vert.

phinsup 07-18-2002 08:22 AM

Yea I know, I think I can get the guy in Arlington to do it for me. I am just putting it a little rally car I am building, it's not like I am going to be driving it on the street https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png
