since the 22nd I've been having the problem with my 88 GXL. I drive to the store and try to leave and it doesn't want to start. its turning over but not quite catching (like its not getting fuel or spark) had a lady tell me she had a 88 Mazda that did the same thing, she thought it was the battery and found out that it was the fuel pump. I have a new battery in it (bought on the 23rd), it just confuses me, cause when it does that and I get a jump start it will start fine. Any one had problem like this? any Suggestions on trouble shooting? Advice?

thnx

John

take a multimeter and check the voltage at the ignition-on power source wires, you can find some easy to access ones by the ignition coils... disconnect the connector and check the black & yellow wire (black with yellow stripe) put the positive terminal on the pin connected to that wire (harness side) and black terminal on the chassis, with the key in the ON position. You should see ~12 volts.

If you don't, theres a problem, if it's low theres a issue of too much resistance somewhere (loose / corroded connection) if it's 0 theres a continuity issue, check the EGI fuse and wiring at the main fuse block.

If there is a switch installed on the car for unflooding, which cuts the EGI somehow, it might be the link that is causing problems.
