So i jack my car up again to fix my coolant leak...again. Anyways I do a once over on the undercarraige of my car and notice that i'm leaking tranny fluid. It seems to be coming out of a solenoid of some sorts, I'm not sure what it could be and how to tighten or fix it. Here are some pictures. Also it seems two pins have come out of some place where it clips into the solenoid. I have no emissions so i'm not sure if these are necessary or what goes into what. Thanks.

I see a couple of connectors, but where is the leak??
|
That cylinder lookin thing that the wires are comin otu of. That and the wires are all wet. It's really greasy stuff.
|
you sure its coming from there and not running off something else?
|
I'm pretty sure, because its only coming off that, and nothing around it. I can check again tonight though.

What is that solenoid anyway? Do s5 Tii's have neutral safety switches where you cannot start the enigne unless the clutch is disengaged? I am just curious https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Theres no after-market grease melting down from some where, is there? Something thicker then 20-50 is quite thick. Kinda odd that it doesnt have a smell. You check the clutch fluid? Mine leaks on the firewall right as it goes to the tranny.

I'm 100% sure thats where its coming from. And it drips very mildly, maybe 2-3 a day after i drive it? The thing is, i'm not totally sure its tranny fluid, isnt tranny fluid red? It is abotu the color of 20w50 motor oil before you put it in the engine but is a lot thicker than that, and doesnt really have a smell to it.

It's tranny fliuid for sure. I drained my fluid today and its the exact same color because i guess i had synthetic in my tranny to begin with. I also checked and its coming from the solenoid for sure, i'm pretty sure its ana o-ring. But, i have no clue hwo to get the thing off.

every car made in the last 10-15 years has a safety. maybe someone disabled it, I dunno. Check the history section (under the index) of the 2003 Fall Edition of the Victoria British Ltd. catalog and you will find: "1987 Anti-lock braking was added as an option on GXL and Turbo models. Starter interlock added to manual transmission model (clutch pedal had to be depressed for the car to start)" So it would appear that not all cars do/did come with neutral safety interlock, namely 86 and prior mazda RX-7's... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif |

Outside the RX7 world my information is still correct. |

But I will rephrase this anyway. Not all cars do have neutral safety interlock swiches. Yes you did come back later on and say in the past 10-15 years... |
...
my idea was already shot down. sorry. should have read the entire thread first. |
Sometimes I like to give knowledge on other cars, not just
RX7s, but im pretty sure its a federal law for cars to have the switch just not sure what year it was inacted. |
hmm i say clean that whole area from any nasty fluids....then let it leak again and it should be much easier to find the leak...then take whatever is leaking and fix it...it might not be that solenoid...well whatever good luck

might I suggest some brake cleaner to clean the area up, its
usually under good pressure, and dries almost instantly with no residue. |
Transmission fluid, no matter what the composition is smells pretty dank. Its clutch/brake fluid, which looks the ******* SAME as mobil 1 trans/gear oil, but has no smell.
ATF fliud for autotrans/slushbox is red |
I have a manual tranny, and the stuff is the exact same consistancy, color, and smell as Redline MT90 gear oil, which i just put in.

My 1988 Honda Prelude does not require me to push in the pedal:)
