I have no idea where it's coming from. I changed the fluid in the tranny while it was out of the car, and come to find out, it was accidentally overfilled. So originally, I had thought the the leak was just from the overfill, and it would drip out until it was at the normal level.

Well, after I broke in the motor, i swapped the fluid out again with some Redline. This time, I did it correctly and made sure i filled it to the correct level. I thought that I would no longer have a leaky transmission. I was wrong. It leaks just the same. It is a slow steady drip that looks like it starts at the top of the tranny and makes its way to the underneath, but it's very hard to tell where its coming from. And it only leaks when the car is running https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif

Does anyone know of this or know what I should do to remedy the leak?

probably coming form the shifter area....take your shifter off and have a peek.

check the drain plug for the tranny. usual leaks from there

Is the underbody of the car covered in it? If it is, I would replace the rear main tranny seal.

damnit my car just started doing the same thing

Yes, the underbody of the car had oil on it, but I assume it was from the wind force of me driving down the road blowing the leak onto other parts underneath the car. Either that, or the wastegates (venting to atmosphere) blowing the oil around.

I don't think its the drain plug, because you can see a trail of oil that is coming from somewhere on the upperside of the tranny, up near the back of the bellhousing. Also, it would leak even if the car wasn't running if it was coming from the drain plug.

But I will double check to make sure.

What am I supposed to be looking for specifically? How can I tell if it is leaking from the shifter? Will it be obvious oil coming from the shifter surround?

And do I need to take the Shifter completely out?

teknics 09-25-2006 05:06 PM

well if you take the whole shifter assembly out its a lot easier to see a decent portion of the top of the trans, since you said the leak was up top i could only imagine it would be something from the shifter area specifically cause there's nothing else on top of the trans https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png.
