I finally got the rest of my bushings out in the rear of the car. I was able to do put in rb dtss elimnator bushings with just my vice. I had to torch and use a vice to remove the front bushing on the rear's trailing arms. Now I cannot get these bushings in, these fuckers are a SUPER tight fit, and since they are rubber it just mushes to one side as I try to push them in with the vice. I was able to put in the rest of the cars new bushings with just my hands. I can't see how a press will help me as its just a lot more powerful.

did you remove the metal shell that's on the outside of the stock bushings? (inside to outside: metal tube->rubber bushing->thin shell with lip->control arm)

1Revvin7 04-16-2004 02:24 PM

I think so? I'm pretty sure there is nothing else I can remove...

1Revvin7 04-16-2004 03:02 PM

Yea I didn't remove the sleeve! Thxs baldy.

Baldy 04-16-2004 03:03 PM

no problem, just be glad you didn't force the press on it! Finding that out made me glad that I took it to a shop.

Yea I could tell something wasn't right. So how did the shop remove the sleeves? I'm thinking maybe heat them up and try and pound them out from the otherside. I'm not sure.

I'm not positive, but they might have forced something under the lip to pry it out. There was one spot on each lip (they gave them back to me) that was bent up, and I could see a spot on the arm where it was slightly gouged (not where the bushing made contact, so it didn't concern me). I could get a pic tonight of the sleeves if you want.

1Revvin7 04-16-2004 03:21 PM

Yea sure why not. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

I got them out, it was real easy. I soaked them in Penetrating Oil, which made a huge difference. I just used a flat head screw driver and pounded the lip down ever other 5-6mm or so. Then I jammed the screw driver in sideways, so its edge was parallel to the lip and as it wedged in it pushed the lip away from the housing. Then I just went from the inside and it popped right out.

Now the real question is: How far in do I press in the center delrin bushing on the racingbeat dtss eliminator bushings...

j9fd3s 04-16-2004 09:38 PM

tight as she goes! the crash our car was in destroyed the rb dtss bushing on that side, i thought that was kinda wierd

So press the center one down until its top is flat to the oustide bushing? If that makes any sense...

I took a thin long punch, and stuck it into the hole, there is a small lip inside you can "hook" onto with the punch and hammer the "cup" out. Then flip it and do the other side. Took me 10 min to do both.

Baldy 04-19-2004 07:59 AM

sorry I didn't get the pic, but sounds like you didn't need it. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

I thought the instructions I read with the dtss bushings said to make the lip of the inner bushing even with the larger bushing, leaving the inner protrusion of the smaller bushing sticking out. I don't know if that makes sense, I'll see if I can find my instructions.

Let me know if you can't find replacements, I'm sure I have some extras.
