Im thinking of buying a nonrunning car and i need to go pick it up. uhaul has those car tow dollys but they said the recomended top speed is 45mph. Any body have an expierience doing this? Any other ideas?

i have gone 75 with a dolly. they just say that for insurance and ****. i dont recomend toeing a rear wheel drive car with a dolly unless you remove the driveshaft first, you may run the risk of burning up the rear tranny bearings. i would rent a trailer its the easyest and safest way of doing things and uhaul has them for like 45 a day i think lest that is what it is here. if not most trailer shops rent out car haulers.

I just towed one a few weeks ago on a dolly. I did tow it with the rear wheels down with the driveshaft in place but it was only about a 50 mile tow. I debated about it but the steering wheel wouldn't lock in this car so I thought it would be the best idea. 3 different sets of wheels turning side to side at the same can suck. Backing up with this rig was almost impossible. Next time I'd get a trailer.

I've towed with both a dolly and a trailer and I highly recommend the trailer. I was lucky enough to get a trailer from U-Haul, but they can be hard to find here in redneckville. How far are you going and what are you pulling it with?

i towed with a dolly, one that lifts the front wheels, i towed like 6-7 hours with it on a major highway, it was all good but i definitely shouldve removed the driveshaft, or i hit a bump way too hard cause the driver side axle popped out of the diff and then the teeth on the diff ground into the teeth on the axle and so i had to replace both of those things.



other then that it was all good lol.

im pulling it with a 1/2 ton suburban. im not exactly sure what kind of hitch it has though.

I've used a uhaul car dolly from sacramento to central washington x2. All the way up I-5 and across central oregon. 70 mph. guess i was lucky as i didnt have any axles fall out or burn any bearings. didnt drop the driveshaft either time. the only weird thing was that i kept seeing sparks behind the car in oregon (towing after dark). turns out that the ricer exhaust tip was dragging on the pavement. trust me, you dont want to get caught throwing sparks out in the central oregon desert in the summer.... can you say range fire?

if you've got a suburban, go for a trailer. tows easier and takes better care of the towee.
