i managed to get the top and bottom bolt out with ease, but the 3rd bolt (the one thats angled) i cant seem to find the right socket for.... 21mm perhaps?

hopefully i can get these axles out tomorrow...

You will nd a pretty stong impact gun to get the axle nutt off.

lol... not necessary... i got one of them off this afternoon with my breaker bar... (before changing my mind)

but anyways... thats not the bolt im talking about, theres 2 17mm bolts and one other one (which i now know is a 21mm) that i need to remove to take the whole hub/axle out...

fc3s4utnv 03-13-2007 12:00 PM

Yeah its a peice of cake, I just did a five lug swap. A standard size socket seemed to work better for me, dont recall the size though.

ditto

silver86 03-13-2007 11:11 PM

well... i got as far as removing the 17mm bolts... i cant budge the 21mm...

i soaked it with PB blaster, tapped on it, pounded on it... ugh!

any tips... (i have an air compressor, but waiting for an electrician to give me a quote on hooking it up)

on the good side, i did buy a hand impact tool and got the rusty screws out of my brake disc https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.gif

Leetheslacker 03-13-2007 11:13 PM

imimpatient, i drilled those screws out.

those 21 bolts can be a real pain in the ass. But it depends from car to car. first fc they came off easy peasy. On this car im pretty sure i had to bust out the breaker bar, and maybe the jack handle extension method.

silver86 03-13-2007 11:35 PM

i may have to run to sears again... oh well https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.gif

silver86 03-13-2007 11:42 PM

edit:

ill either have to pick up a flex extension, or an extension thatll fit in that small area...

i guess i cant put out enough torque on a regular wrench to budge it...

I installed my DTSS eliminator bushings a couple weeks ago. Here is my setup: PB blaster + propane torch + breaker bar = success

Spray the PB blaster, then heat up the area around the end of the bolt, the heat will help the blaster penetrate deeper. Repeat 5 or so times then give it a shot with the bar.

I spent about 5 minutes with a 600 ft-lb impact gun before I realized that wasn't enough...

In2tuners 04-01-2007 07:57 PM

Has anyone ever gotten the hub and driveaxles seperated.

yes... i have... you need a puller...

In2tuners 04-02-2007 05:38 PM

tryed that the puller wants to keep bending to one side. Sprayed it with pb blaster let it sit still couldn't get it off. Hit it with a hammer cause why not. Its been a royal pain

what size and type of puller where you using...

i used a 3 prong 4" puller the first time and it wouldnt fit right on the 5-lug hubs, so i went and bought a 3/2 prong 6" puller and it worked fine in the 2 prong configuration... it came off with ease.

Leetheslacker 04-02-2007 10:34 PM

my axles just pushed right out using my thumbs.

In2tuners 04-03-2007 04:32 PM

Where did you get the 6" puller from, cause i was using a gear puller(I know bad idea) I really didn't think it was going to be this hard to get off.

UPDATE:

i managed to loosen the ddts bolt on the driver side... but it now seems that the bushing is turning inside its casing... is cutting it out the only way not... or is there something else i can try...

bolt goes into the hub if i remember right. kep going and it should come out.

so just keep on trying to turn the bolt out, it should break free of the bushing?

Leetheslacker 05-02-2007 12:08 AM

thats what i;d try
