I want to but some new stikier tires for my FC. But what to get?
what has the best traction to durability? What will grip in all weather? What are the good deals? I want to get some on my stock '88 Turbo II wheels. I also spoke to a fellow rotor-head around here and he he told me my rims are great because they are stronger than other rx-7 rims when driven hard. Is this true? What would you recommend? '=' |
falken azenis sports. not the drift azenis tires, but the ones wiit the big funny looking tread patches. they grip like a mofo...
|
i dunno what he means by stronger when driven hard, that only matters as far is damaging the wheels when hitting stuff or bending them in pot holes etc. Most stock rims won't bend unless the pot hole is pretty damn big or you drive into a curb or something.
I'm run S03s for a while, i like them, but they are pricey. I wouldn't be speaking from experience with anything else, i had nitto 555s and hated them. |
How much are you lookign to spend? I have Bridgestone Potenza RE750's, 225 50 16 on S5 turbo wheels, and they are amazing. Final cost after mounting and balancing, and the cost of tires and shipping from tirerack came to just under $600. If youre on more of a budget, the ES100's are very good for the price. I had Dunlop Sport SP8000's before, and they were good tires, but not as grippy as the potenzas. Id like to drive on the new Dunlop FM901's, theyre supposed to be pretty good. And Azenis are sticky and cheap, but they have limited sizes.
|
I've got an SE, and the stock 14" wheels. Falken Azenis sports are the best for the money, just over 330 including mount and balance
|
Uuuuuumh Potenzas sound good. How do they do in wet conditions?
How much are the Azenis? and where can I get them? What do you guys think of Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 tires? Or the BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW ? Thanks for the replys. BTW I am looking to spend about 500-600. '=' |
The potenzas are GREAT in the rain. Best rain tire Ive ever driven on. Much better in the rain than Azenis. Much better treadwear also.
|
I got mine at the local Hibbdon tires plus. They were special order, but didnt cost any extra. Most places should be able to order them for you. They were about 52 apiece, but you've got bigger wheels, so expect to pay more.
|
oh, yeah, the azenis SUCK in the rain and snow
|
goodyear gs-d3 are kick ass tires...... i have not lost traction in the wet, or in the dry with them
|
I ran azeni's for over a year on my car. I rode on them until I started to see cords and the tire looked like a slick. For 99 percent of the life they did just fine in rain.

for my 205/50/15's they were 78 each before mounting. I don't remember after. I had them on stock vert 15x 6.5 rims. sticky as hell, and didn't wear TOO fast, but they don't last forever. I think I got 25k out of the first set, but that was going easo on them, second set 15k, with some wet weather drifting. |
Negative, I had the azeni sports. I probably got about 25k miles out of them before the cords started to show. They aren't a super rain tire, but under normal driving they'll do just fine. It's irritating when people act like driving in the rain with the azeni's is like trying to drive on m/t slicks when the roads are wet. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif

The re730s, which are close to the 750s are great to.

I would like to know what the guys with 350+rwhp drive around on. Driving around on drags/slicks has got to suck. Having no traction through the 1/2nd gear has got to suck also...
|
Without question, the potenza's are much better in the rain. The azeni's can be driven in the rain however, and assuming the driver has a certain amount of self control you won't be flying off the road.
Most of my friends drive foxbodies/ls1's and quite a few drive around with bfg or nitto drag radials all the time. Yes, it's a pain in the ass under typhoon storm like conditions, but it's worth the trade off to have traction for when it's not raining. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683329.gif |
um. driving around on drag radials is pointless. it accomplishes nothing except a dent in the wallet and showing off. a set of nice wide traction oriented tires would be much better for the street.

Where online can I get a good deal on azenis?
I found a terad life study on azenis as well. Azenis Tell me what you think? '=' |
The Kumho MX is good too, dry traction should be similar to the Azenis, but probably much better in the rain.

Ok guys ... I know pretty much nothing about tires ...
My '88 SE has the original phone dial mags with 185/70R14 tires on them. I'm looking into getting myself a set of Falken AZENIS RT-215 but the closest fit they've got is 195/60R14. Would those fit on my mags and is it recommendable to run this size tire with my mags? Thanks https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif |
