For the life of me i can not figure out why my new trans refuses to go in. I've checked everything i can possibly think of. Both trans are na, input shafts are same size and new ones in good condition with no reason to not go in. The clutch is newer and was not touched this time so it should not be an issue. being that the old trans slid right out leads me to believe it couldnt be binding anyway. Ive looked at the pilot bearing which still looks brand new. I didnt have any issues getting the old one in when i did the clutch so id like to think im not just retarded, although i am starting to feel that way now. Ive taken it down and tried over and over again and no matter what i get it up there to where it can hang and thats where it ends. Its sitting about an inch back from motor and wont go anymore. Ive spun the shaft for hours while pushing and kicking it and still no luck.

That happened to me, then all of a sudden it just slipped right in.

my thread with the same problem

Things that helped:

Try tilting the engine rearward; place a jack under the front side of the engine a bit. (I think this is what helped the most)

Put the tranny in gear, then slip the driveshaft in the rear, and turn it back and forth while pressing in (not sure if that's what you're doing when you say you're spinning the input shaft)

Throw some salt over your left shoulder, sacrifice a SFWC to the great god Banzai, and try it again.

Time to order more parts. Went to the store yesterday and my father decided to um help.. so now the splines are ruined on the clutch disk. I noticed when i got back i could no longer get the trans to hang. So i inspected it and found that. May be fixable though as it was only a slight bit in the front. But since the cars been sitting ive noticed an increasing leak from the rear of oil pan so nows the time for some new stiffer engine mounts and to take care of the leak... at this rate I may as well just buy a new motor and everything else to go with it. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/dry.gif

So im back messing with the car again finally. Trans went in smoothly this time and all seemed good. So i finished up fired the car up. I hadnt bleed the clutch yet so i didnt try it in gear while running but before hand it went through the gears smoothly, shut it down and tried again later however and cant get it in any gear at all. So waht gives? im starting to wish i had never bought this used trans. Had hopes of it lasting til i got the other one rebuilt, my hopes are failing now. Besides the input shaft binding somehow what else would cuase it to not go into gear?

i finaly got it into 1st after a while of messing with it. It wont go through all the gears easily though. Seems to pop into 4th with a little bit of force and then you can do the same with all the rest of the gears after that. after realizing that I started the car with it in first(still in the air) and all seemed ok in that respect. I couldnt hear any strange sounds either. Id think any sort of grinding itd probably make would be far more noticable than the exhuast anyways, atleast as something not normal. So guess ill leave it as it is and hope it lasts a month or two so the other one can get rebuilt.

Will it go through the gears with the car off?
