1989 ragtop, ported 13b n/a, RB full exhaust no cat, all emissions, p/s, a/c, etc.

new engine is broke in, coils are good, fuel, TPS adjusted correctly, CAS correct,

After bringing e-shaft to TDC and aligning CAS gear the timing maks are to the right while running, however, after bring engine to temp, grounding out, and setting the timing, I'm left w/ the hesitation from 1500k to 4000k.

Could the TPS be faulty even after resistance and light tests?

I always set TPS and timing by feel/trial and error

Getting a LOT of prcatice on this working on frestyle's car. I'll give you a quick breakdown

Getting the pulley right is easy, getting the CAS right is a little tougher.

Pull the CAS out and line up the line on the main body to the dimple in the gear. Looking down into the CAS with the cover off you will see 2 reluctor wheels, one with 2 teeth the other with 16+

I marked the lower reluctor wheel with a marker on the teeth that were lined up with the pick up coil (black little box with silver line on it).

As you re-install the CAS the gear will move, once the CAS has seated, use a flashlight and look to see that the tooth you marked is still lined up with the pickup coil. If not rotate the CAS to line them up. install the holding nut and do not tighten. You need to warm the car up to operating temp and check your timing with a timing light. Install the lead on the leading plug on the front rotor, check your timing by flashing the main pulley at the timing marker and see if you have the yellow dead on. if not, rotate the CAS to get the yellow so it matches the timing pointer. once this is correct move the timing light lead to the trailing coil and see if it is lighting on the red mark. If you are on for both the yellow and red your ready to go.

cold timing is hard to set because the computer will retard timing for a cold engine for easier starting. Your TPS also has to be set on a warm engine. Setting it cold you are fighting the thermowax and stuff.

Hope this helps
