Well, I went outside to day to check the timing on my FC because my brother bought a timing gun for his Camaro, and when I went to look for the yellow timing mark, I think it rubbed away. I only have the white one. My questions are: Is the yellow mark to the left or the right of the white oneif you are facing the front of the engine? And when doing the timing, which way is advancing, and which way is retarding? Also I was looking to retard it a little bit more after I set it, so how far should it set it from the line? Thanks for the help.

On a stock pulley there is a red and yellow mark. They are 15* apart so if you see one the other one is right there beside it. I would guess, and it's just a guess, that the white mark you are seeing is faded yellow or someone has dobbed some white paint on one of the marks. Roll the engine over by hand till you find you existing mark. There should be a slight slot cut in the pulley where the mark is. There should also be another slot 15* to the right or left of that mark. If you don't see the slots keep rolling the engine over by hand and carefully look for the slots. Once you find the pair of timing marks the yellow mark will be the one to the right when facing the pulley from the front of the car. The mark to the left would be red from the factory and is used for trailing alingment.

since you're na set the timing to at least the right hand side of the leading mark

Which color is the leading mark? And is that advanced or retarded? Thanks.

there are 2 notches on the pulley, one at -5btdc and one at -20btdc. the right hand mark is -5btdc, its where you set the leading, and its supposed to be yellow.

setting it to the right of this is advanced, ig you have an na, you want to err on that side, turbo you should err on the retarded side

I read somewheres that if you retard the timeing like 5 to 8 degrees, you can get some more HP. Is this true? If so, what are the downfalls to it?

No, advance. Unless your turbo or nitrous.

on an na you want to advance it, you will gain mostly low and midrange. the timing up top is pretty good
