I follow the service manual procedure, i.e. align the marks on the Crank Angle Sensor, put the pin on the yellow mark of the pulley.



The car won't start in this position. I have to turn the clockwise to the stop in order to get the vehicle to start. The marks are all aligned when the CAS is all the way counterclockwise. Timing gun shows no signs of the marks on the pulley when running.



I had to replace the front hub due to stripped threads for the pulley. Were these hubs different on various 13B models? Could this perhaps be why the timing marks won't align.



Also, do I have the plug wires on correctly?



Bottom Front (furthest from the firewall) to white mark on leading coil (by the radiator).

Bottom Rear (closest to the firewall) to the other terminal on leading coil (by the radiator).

Top Front to white mark on trailing coil (closest to the firewall).

Top Rear to other terminal on the trailing coil (closest to the firewall).



The car will not idle, but purrs like a kitten above 1500 rpm.

All hubs are the same for 86-89.





I can only think of a few things. You didn't put the key in the eccentric shaft and the hub spung when tigthening.



Or key is in correctly and the hub didn't spung but the pulley was installed incorrectly. The pulley has offset holes so this does not happen but people have been able to mess this up by forcing it in. Some how were able to install it wrong.





Just remember

Top Front goes to T1 coil (trailing)

Top rear goest to T2 coil (tailing)



Bottom front and rear got to Leading coil by battery. They dont' matter because they fire at the same time to the Leading plugs.



It does matter when you have the trailings wrong.

I dont' think this is the matter since you can get the car started but not idle. if you had the trailing plugged in wrong, the engine will not work well or at all.

I know I put the key in. Perhaps it came out somehow as the hub was being pushed forward. I went ahead & advanced the timing & solved the idle problem. The motor idles perfectly at 750rpm. Now I only have a "hot start" problem which I'll start a new thread. Thanks so much for your help.
