My motor is comin' out for a re-build, and I'm thinking of what else to replace/upgrade while its out. How do you tell if the cluch is getting worn down to replacement levels? Its a 1991 n/a, with 115k on it. I dont abuse the car, but it is my daily driver. Should I replace the clutch?

Its getting a streetport, so It wont need much more holding power over stock? What do you guys think? New ACT street/strip OR stay with the good ole' stock thats already there?

The clutch engages fairly high up, but I dont feel any slippage (before the motor died at least).

Are FC hydraulic or mecanical clutches?

thanks

act s/s is real nice. i LOVE ACT!

7mech 10-02-2002 09:31 PM

Fc's have hydrualic clutches. You should change it b/c you've got the motor out (no labor costs) and b/c you're increasing your horsepower. Trust me the stock one won't hold alot more power past stock. The ACT is a good clutch. Besides if the clutch goes on you later you will be kicking youself in the ass for not donig it when the engine was being rebuilt. You'll really kick youself when you see the bill. IMO change it now.

change it now. but dont only look at the ACT clutch. look around to what fits ur needs and what is gonna be done to ur car in the near future.

There are grooves in the face of the clutch disc, usually when the grooves disappear, its time for a new clutch...

while the engine is out a lightweight flywheel, and an upgraded clutch/pressure plate, would be nice additions. Servicing the hydrualic clutch system isnt a bad idea either, while your at it https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

we replaced everything on my friends TII, act s/s clutch and hd pp, new clutch master, new clutch slave, s/s clutch line, RB 17LB flywheel. only cost $1000 in parts..... good thing we did all the labor LOL

What is the difference in the ACT street/strip, the 4 puck, and the 6 puck clutch? I know about their driving characteristics. But my question is more technical...Visually, whats the difference??? Can they be differentiated just by looks?

vosko 10-03-2002 09:41 AM

the s/s is a full disc. the 4 puck has four parts that are called pucks. it is not a complete circle. same with the 6 except it has 6 pucks instead of a whole circle

sunshine 10-03-2002 10:01 AM

Thanks Vosko, the reason i ask is that I'm buying a new one from some dude, and i want to be sure I'm getting exactly what I want. Are the part #'s imprinted on the disk and PP?

vosko 10-03-2002 10:08 AM

nope i don't think so

What about the pressure plate? Same question as above?

I mean, visually...so when I'm about to pick up the parts, I can make sure they are what he says they are.

the only i see is YELLOW when i see them LOL

sunshine 10-03-2002 09:19 PM

I was studying them on the act website...it kinda looks like the amount and thickness of the "fingers" is different between the HD and the others. I sure hope they matched the actual picture of the plate to the description, and its not like some sites that use one piture or the wrong picture with a description.

vosko 10-03-2002 09:20 PM

you can see a slight difference but i've seen my extreme pp for my FD and my TII PP. i dunno which one i have on the TII. i guess HD maybe its extreme who knows LOL

Fastrotaries 10-05-2002 01:30 AM

if it's an N/A then i don't think you need something as aggresive as an ACT4/6 puck. whatever..... I have the 6 puck on my heavily moded TII and it's a bit of work on the street. I have yet to see that in traffic and don't look forward to it. I would recommend the Centerforce dual friction. It did great against 5500K RPM launches. (just dropped the hammer and gave it gas). The car ran high 13's consistently. Never had a problem with it. Now someone is enjoying it too.

Fastrotaries 10-05-2002 01:31 AM

Bonez also makes some good stuff, but the pedal feel on the CF is so smooth. That's why i would recomment it for the street.
