Well, it has almost been a year since my TII vert swap.

I have an S4 TII tranny in it which has not given me any problems for the past yaer, shifts very smoothly and no noise.

2 weeks ago, out of the blue I started it and it would not go into 1st, 2nd, 5th, or Reverse. Eventually I was able to force into 1st and move it to my garage.

I was able to drive the car the next day, a little hard to get into reverse but got it going. It seem to have gone away the problem but everytime I come hope from a long trip highway trip, the next day is hard to get into 5th gear even if I rev match the engine to road speed.

All the hydraulics (clutch master/slave) have been all replaced about 4 months ago with a new stainless steel line, fresh fluid and only 1k miles on the new components. Clutch and cover plate, pilot bearing, release bearing new when I swapped in the engine.

Mileage on the tranny is unknown but no leaks, rattles or vibrations.

I have also tried to shift thru the gears while the car is parked, engine off and clutch pedal down. Seems like most of the trouble happens when trying to shift to 5th while doing this test with engine off. Eventually it eases up.

Anyone care to take a shot or has had this problem. I'm starting to wonder if something is going bad with the tranny, broken internal gear rod or synchro.

synchros going bad? or possible a cracked/broken shift fork

Thats a clutch issue man. i had that same issue on a 6speed rx8 , nissan sentra se-r and a t2 tranny. the clutch PP is gone.

since it sounds like he will be replacing his clutch he might as well look in the tranny and see whats what

RotorDad 04-14-2009 05:57 PM

it does sound like the clutch. same thing happened to me back in 97

Either your clutch fork has cracked (which isn't as uncommon as you think). Or your pilot bearing is shot and has disintegrated and preventing the input shaft from advancing forward.

just check your bearings and everything

Thanks for your input.

Too much crap going on at work that I can't concentrate on fixing my cars.

This might take a while to do, i'll keep driving the car nicely for the mean time and see how far it goes.

RicerJ 04-25-2009 12:36 AM

but then you might just make the problem worse then it already is
