Is it possible to make a turboed engine from an N/A base? What all would be needed? I have an 88 10AE that as just lost its zip. I have a buddy with an N/A motor. I was wondering if I could turbo his motor with my turbo and manifold. If so would it run as good as a stock turbo? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.gif Just wondering. Yes it's very possible. Take a look at my webpage http://zuki-r.com I ran a stock N/A motor for awhile and then turbocharged it. You will need several Turbo II parts and also need to know other differences between these motors.



Turbo2 Upper and Lower Intake manifolds (You need to modify the lower manifold the bolt holes are the same, but the runners are not since the Turbo is a 4 port motor and you have a 6 port).



Your injectors are 460cc vs. a turbo's 550cc

You will need a Turbo II exhaust manifold and Turbo. You will need to drill a hole in one of your housings (I believe it's the rear) to feed the water cooled bearing in the turbo.

You need a Turbo II front cover for the oil return line from the Turbo.

You will need to supply oil to the Turbo as well. I good place for this is the stock Oil Pressure Sender. (You can install a T fitting).



Mechicanically that will do it... but note:

The Turbo II has:

a larger oil pump

lower compression rotors to deal with the boost

a larger clutch and flywheel

a stronger transmission

a ECU that knows how to deal with the boost and supply more fuel.

a Turbo II center plate has much larger ports than a N/A Motor.

Turbo II housings do not have the difuser in the middle of the exhaust port that all N/A motors have.



I ran mine with a Haltech ECU, 550cc injectors, But the mileage on my engine took it's toll. It made enough power to slip the clutch when launched hard.



I personally like the additional timing the 6 ports give over a stock 4 port. So my new motor consists of a mix of parts.

Turbo II rotors

Turbo II center plate (ported of course)

6 Port front and rear plates (ported)

Turbo II Housings (ported)

Turbo II flywheel and 6 puck clutch

Turbo II Transmission

S5 Turbo and 3" dump tube. (Previously ran a S4)

Still running 550cc injectors and a Haltech

Turbo II Oil Pump

R/A Harded Apex Seals and springs.

And my motor has NOS on it (Dual Fogger nozzles).



I'm in the assembly stage of my new motor. Oh what fun that is...

Well I just realized I took the old pics down...



Here is what you need to do:

This pic shows it a little better. The gasket shows the ports of your 6 ports and the upper port has been drilled into the stock turbo 4 port manifold. You then grind and make it all pretty. Note there isn't enough metal there for the runner. So you need to use some sort of expoxy to create the runner. It doesn't take a lot. About an inch or so where the 6 ports open up.

Here is my Turbo II manifold on. Look at the lower top intake manifold bolt. Next to that has been expoxied. You can't tell it's not altered. It all blends together and the inside of the manifold runners and smooth and flow together.

If you have access to a TII drivetrain, it's all a direct bolt-in swap.

I own a 10 AE so that is no problem. My car is just a summer driver that I would like to get back into true form. I was only curious about this engine crossover.
