With some of the problems I have been having with my car (87 GXL) I was given the advice in multiple areas of this forum that the TPS needed adsutment. I purchased one of the simple two light checkers from Mazda. It was pretty cheap.
When I adust the TPS to the proper setting using the checker light, the car will not stay running. When I adust it by ear (listening to the engine) I can set it so the car runs pretty well. What could be going on here? It should run well when the checker lamp tells me it is right, but it does not. Any thoughts? Sorry for the mispellings but a couple of my letters on my keyboard have stoppped working and I have not had a chance to buy a new keyboard. Thanks. Greg |
dumb question, are you adjusting it with the engine running and the lights? it should be key on engine off for the lights

Not a dumb question at all. I plug the checker in first and then turn the key to on. No running engine. what the FSM said to do.

hmm, wierd that should work

maybe its ur tps thats gone bad.

You could be right. I wonder how much that is going to cost me? How would I check that without ust replacing it?

Does a uncorrectly adjusted TPS cause throttle problems? or slow acceleration?
|
it causes the car to not start, sometimes only when the car
is hot, and it causes some running problems, again it tends to be worse when the car warms up. At least that has been my personal expierence. |
