Okay Guru's,

I have a wire that grounded out on the sensor attached to the gas pedal. The wire burned into the harness.THe car still runs fine but I want to repair it correctly.I am currently pulling the harness apart to repair the damage but I cannot find in any of my manuals what the purpose of that sensor is or what it controls.THe car in question is an 86 gtu with the on/of (non linear)tps on the throttle body.I have an 87 that does not have this switch on the gas pedal. Thanks for the help.

There was no GTU in 86. First year was 88, and then the GTU became the base model for 89-90. Id say its aftermarket, probably a nitrous safety switch.

Sorry, not a gtu.Non turbo 86.The switch is not after market, four wires from the switch into the factory harness. Two wires are switched 12 volt, the other two send that 12 volt signal somewhere.Just wondering if anybody knows what that switch controls, whether it be as simple as part of the cruise control or a wot signal to the ecu.Like I said I found no info on it in the factory manual. Some more info,it doubles as the throttle pedal stop.Same setup as my 87 but ther is not a switch in the 87,just a bolt.

Thanks,

Nick
