So what's the deal? Is this mod a good thing or not? I've already done it to a spare throttle body and I'm getting ready to put it on the car, so I'll have an opinion pretty soon myself. Of course, my car is used primarily for racing. Let's hear some opinions.... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

I like mine. I removed almost all of the stuff from the TB, I left the thermowax on to help with cold starts. It is pretty ported, but not MAX ported. The engine is stock, no porting, no exhaust, just a cone filter. Runs great, good throttle response, I dont notice any jerkyness unless I am trying to cruise at 1500 rpm in first gear.

Baldy 06-08-2004 01:40 PM

I like the throttle response. I don't like having to hold the gas until it warms up, but I think it's worth it. If there's any added jerkiness, I either can't tell or I've gotten used to it.

FCmaniac 06-08-2004 02:31 PM

I like the response too but I'm having some of the probs revvin was.. its too touchy around the street, sometimes the car jerks when I pull out (that didn't sound good) and it looks like I'm just learning to drive stick or something

j9fd3s 06-08-2004 05:17 PM

i find it usually causes more problems than it "fixes"

rx7_re 06-08-2004 05:44 PM

meh, I got fed up with the thermowax and stuff always being in the way whenever I took off the TB, so i decided to ditch it all and port it out. I am happy with the results. It was more responsive and gave it just a tad more power. Mine idles fine, hot and cold.

Overall would I do it again? If I was alone on a saturday night and really bored.

Wankelteer 06-08-2004 06:45 PM

I think this mod is awsome. Because of it my turbo spools up about 300rpm faster and spools harder now. Throttle response is good too, drives completely different then before.

BigTurbo74 06-10-2004 12:38 AM

don't do it unless you have a standalone, you car is slow without one anyway, so the tb mod won't do much but possibly cause more probs than good, like mikey said

spooliNrx7 06-10-2004 12:43 AM

I like my TB mod, has great response and i only have to give it a little touch of the gas to get it started...but i also have standalone to correct my idle.

Rotaman X 06-10-2004 02:35 AM

what is stand alone?

Dave 88 A.E 06-10-2004 07:14 AM

I have no problem with my idle since I got my modded tb. I like it the only complaint I have is started the car when the engine is cold you have to let it warm up or it wants to stal when you come toa stop.

standalone= aftermarket engine management system, solely controls fuel and ignition on your engine.

what is this tb mod you all speak of? Is it s4 and s5 type mod? from most of the reports it sounds like i would like to do it myself. if someone could tell me how to do it or show me where to find out how that would be great. thanks, jack

Now that's the kind of stuff I want to hear! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

venomrx7 06-11-2004 07:11 PM

I did mine and love it. it is a little jerkier when cruising very low in 1st, but other than that its great.

TII777 06-12-2004 12:17 AM

Yeah after I did mine I couldnt get the idle to stop surging, but removal of BAC, some tps adjustement and such, and she starts up and idles at 850 no problem.

nismo convert 06-03-2005 12:34 AM

1st and 2nd was wayyyyyyyyyy jerkier, but i need new bushings and i have solid motor mounts. so thats a big cause. i never tried it a non ported tb on my turbo motor, so i don't know about thegains, and yes holding your foot on the gas sucks ass, specially when it stalls people think your car is dying and such.

teknics 06-03-2005 02:12 PM

My TB mod went through without a hitch.

Not only is there a lot less **** in the way, there's now less spots for coolant to leak out of, less possible headaches, and less things to cause a possible idle problem.

And for everyone who says its nearly impossible for it to idle perfect, my car idled solidly at 700rpm. This is with stock everything except a t04e, full straight exhaust, intake, walbro fuel pump and emissions were completely removed. It was completely stock ecu wise.

People that have these "bad problems" must eithe rbe rushing it or not doing something right, as soon as i got my FD TB (i am switching to FD UIM and TB when my car is back together) i immediately removed all the bullshit, thats how trusting i am of modding the tb.

kevin.

I can report no negative driveability issues associated with the TB mod. Although it was part of a larger "mod"--the install of my Haltech E6X and new injectors.

Driveability is much improved over all. I have NO issues regarding idle or anything else. The car is a little hard to keep running on startup if the weather is cold, but I suspect that I could fix that by adding more fuel to the startup map.

The only benefit that I can see so far is simplicity, and to be sure, that counts for something if you're going to pull the UIM every once in a while.

turborotor 06-06-2005 02:02 PM

Love it but be warned, you might get boost creep.

I run a full 60-1 with HKS standard wastegate. I had no boost creep with a 10pound spring. After the mod, I creeps to 14psi.
