well, i went to autozone, and came back armed with an oil squirter, ATF, spark checker, and some antiseaze (sp).

so, i began by pulling the plugs, which i'm not too sure if they are any good. the engine was rebuilt only a year ago, so i'm not too sure. yall be the judge. here are the pics.

so, i then decide to check the spark from each coil, and each one did spark, although the leading sparks (L1, L2) were much weaker looking, much smaller.

decided to measure the resistances of the wires, and each one got around 7.5 K ohms (they are 7 mm, stock i presume). while i was checking the leading wires, i noticed major rust around the part of the wire that connects to the plug.

could this be the cause of my no-start problem? i would venture a guess of "hell yeah!" so, i need some new wires, which one's should i get? i was thinking the magnacore 8.5 mm from mazdatrix, but they cost $60. i know the jacobs from rx7.com are only like $40 and also 8.5 mm. any suggestions?

you went through the trouble to take them out..... you might as well replace them even if its not fouled

Rob x-7 07-13-2003 05:14 PM

those wires are ****, stock ones arent bad and wont interefere with

your radio, not sure if those performance wires they sell are

RF shielded or not.

Plugs dont look terrible but need to be replaced, yearly is a good

bet depending on driving habits and engine condition.

i'm emailing the rx7.com guys to find out some more info on their wires, and see if they interfer with radio signals.

there you go, the answer to your question!

Actually most your aftermarket wires are more shielded then the factory ones, we used to keep a factory wire in the toolbox for when we were timing cars, with some of the aftermarket wires we could not get a signal to the timing light, so we'd stick the stock wire on.

We have some in the store that have a grounding strap on each wire if you want to be 100% LOL

Spark plug Wires

high performance race wires will interefere with radio signals

race cars have no radio remember? lol

Street wires wont.

I have the hotwires spark plug wires and i get no EMI from them. I had a static coming from the radio and I put a good ground to the metal backing ou the radio and it killed it. But I got it like a month after the wires.
