This may not be conclusive, but my 88 has the second one--13B Intercooled Turbo II, and I'm pretty sure it's the original. I've never seen the first one, but then I've never seen an S5 TII!!!!

the jdm ones say rotary turbo with intercooler. the easy way to tell the motors apart, is the s4 has a tstat cover with a radiator cap on it, the s5 has black plastic with no cap.

the intercoolers, have different inlets, s4 is more like a 60mm pipe, and the s5 starts at 60mm and tapers bigger into the cooler

I have never seen the first one either. That is odd.

like in the 2nd pic??

the first one just says JDM the second one says 90 TII. the 90(?) comes with all accesories, harness and ecu. going for like 700. that 20B looks delicious, though.

Not necessarily so.... My 88 had ABS until I yanked the leaky junk and re-plumbed all the lines. Looked just like the second pic.

S4 intercooler has the 2 extra vacumm nipples that are need for the s4 intake manifold. S5 lacks those nipples.
