Test drove a NA 88
#1
Hey guys, I test drove a NA 88 today and was expecting a bit more. The car was completely stock with a claimed rebuild. The motor didnt smoke at all or anything out of the ordinary, other than a bit of sputtering until it got warmed up. The thing that surprised me though, is that the car had no pep to it at all, and there was no pull in power. The car just kind of went forward, with no pull involved. The tach didnt go up that quick either.
Is this normal with stock NA's, and will a few simple intake / exhaust uncorking mods make a very noticable difference?

question is, what are you used to? if you are use to a forced induction car, you will never be impressed with a stock n/a. rx-7's that are not turbo'd are not impressive in straight line, but they can be very impressive on a curved road. drive it again, and go all ***** out on a curved road, you should be impressed.
things that help alot with n/a rx-7's is suspension modifications.

Yeah, not real sure why you're expecting performance out of a car that dosent break 200hp and is 17 years old
You could spend 5k and still not break 200rwhp on a N/A. And you can always say peri-port, but if you can do a peri-port with the supporting fuel mods, ecu, etc. tell me where to sign up.
Also helps if everything is in working order also. Something that is 17 years old is BOUND to have a problem. Either a small, or a serious problem.

ill second that, the day i had the car i had to repace the driveaxle (ujoint problem) and rearend mount. And 2 months later i had to get a new tranny for it. Also replaced the slave cylinder 3 times and the master cylinder and hose once.
The car is fun to drive. I really injoy mine. I know its not the fastest thing on the road but its still alot of fun and it keeps the civics away from me
