My '86 GXL sits at just like a millimeter under the halfway point, and never rises above that...it seems a little hot but it's still in the normal zone. Then again, it's also been like 90+ degrees here lately. I was going to replace the water pump and the T-Stat today, but if the ******* engine is gonna pop at 200k, then I'm not going to bother. I got the system flushed though.
Also, does anyone know if the power steering has a relief valve, of sorts? Today when I was at my mechanic's shop, I noticed it was leaking QUITE A BIT of fluid...but we checked it and it's at the normal line. And I drove 45 minutes back home and it's not leaking and it's still at the full line. Weird much? |
From whence is the power steering system leaking fluid? A friend of mine had a Prelude with a leaky hose and it used to force liquid out of the fill cap on the reservoir, presumably because of air in the system.
You just got the car? My guess would be that the P.O. knew it had a leak and overfilled it to keep it working long enough for you to get the car home. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/dry.png |
it leaked a little more but it still shows it as full.
|
And yes, it's power steering fluid, not brake fluid.
|
Oh, and we don't really know where it's coming from because the P.S. Fluid is everywhere along those hoses and such. Wesley seemed to think it was from a hose, but with my luck it's probably leaking from god knows where.
I know the boot that is connected to some part of my steering is torn open. I also know that it's possible that some boot on my power rack might have a bad seal and it's leaking out of the boot itself, but it doesn't make sense because there's power steering fluid up higher than that... I don't care. I'll just keep on top of the fluid levels, no big deal. |
might be a pin hole in the powersteering cooler, the fluid was probably overfilled to begin with
|
I might just remove the damned power steering. The TPS going out has stalled the car a few times...driving without power steering isn't that bad. haha. Plus, it shuts off at 45mph anyway..
|
Since the cooling system flush, it now sits just barely above 1/4. I'm happy.
