So, yeah, here I am, with a dead car, the good news is, I am moved into the new house, which has a garage, with lights and everything, I also have a new floor jack, and some jackstands, not to mention a socket set, so, I started taking things apart on the car, I figure the best way to learn is to start dissasembling stuff right? so armed with my sockets and a fsm I dove into it. any tips, or pointers would be GREATLY appreciated. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/violin.gif

P.S. Pictures to follow.

Which seal? Apex?

So you're tacking a rebuild now?

SoniX 04-28-2004 05:48 PM

yeah, I think it is an apex seal, she got some bad gas (it sat for a year while I was deployed to Iraq) and blew something bad

just unbolt the p/s pump and the a/c thing then the braket no need to remove the a/c lines and stuff, jsut get some bungy cords and hold them to them to the side, then remove air pump, then start unpluggin stuff, tip is to remove the UIM since u're goin to rebuilt the motor anyways, and it's easier to get to transmission bolts on top and such, and before you take oout the motor make sure the head is completely down or you could mess it up like i did. just a head up on lazy eyes headlights

try gettin Factory Service Manual i think www.fc3s.org might have them or check on rx7club.com under 2nd Gen and Faq for FC something like that might point you to where to get FSM

hopefully it didnt take the housing out with it if it was a seal...hey while its apart, it would be a good idea to get it ported. It'll only cost a extra few $$ in that case, and if you're handy with a die grinder, you can find porting templates on the web

wow, you must be psychic, you just answered the question I was about to ask: How much dissasembly is needed for the ac and p/s?" I assume you mean put the headlights all the way down before lifting out the motor? and I do have the FSM, fc3s.org doesn't have it anymore, but they do have a link to the site that does, damn useful stuff, my next question, when I pull the UIM, will that make it easier to get the damn harness out? as it stands I can't see any way to pull it out without breaking stuff.
