I have a 1988 rx7 auto trans

i just purchased this car and was informed of a vibration in the rear end, figured u-joint, tires or something in that neighborhood...

tires are fine and balanced and the u-joint seems to be fine(appears someone tried fixing the problem by replacing the driveshaft).

got the car home and make a few minor repairs to get it up and running seems to be running great but seems to really use the fuel

and doesnt seem to be as powerful as my old 84 rx7 but i kinda figure it has alot to do with the auto trans in it apposed to the stick

my old one had....any ideas why it is using so much fuel??? ok back to my main topic my vibration

the vibration/humming starts around 35 mph and continues no matter how fast your going i even tried to get going and put it up in nuetral

and the vibration was still there,

i put the car up on the lift at work and ran it up to about 40-50 mph and it was about the same as when driving it... the vibration is almost a humming meaning its a real fine vibration and it just vibrates all the plastic and makes alot of noise.... i have been driving this car 60 miles everyday and i am just affraid it is gonna come apart on me but dont have a choice since this is my only form of transpertation so i would really like to get it fixed... any help woulbe very greatfully appreciated.....thanks in advance

Sounds like rear hub bearings.

is it normal for the stub axles in the rear end have a little bit of up and down play???? axle seal are not leaking so i kinda thought that it cant be all that bad.....

Here is a thought on the other issue. Had an auto 88 and the switch on the gas pedal was stuck. Used gas and was slow at bottom end bad, felt fine once the car was moving down the road. You can check it easy, it's inside on the pedal. Took it apart and cleaned mine till I got a replacement, changed the attitude of the car big time.
