I only have the lift for today and tomorrowand im stuch at one point. I got pertty much everything taken off. But im stuck Should I take the engine out with the trans mission of seperate. I have a tranny jack and I wanted to ask just in case.

Should I take off the intake manifolds?

Should I take off the exhaust manifold?

How hard is it to get to the transmission bolts anything I have to remove to get to them?

I need help ASAP like I said I only have the lift and the tools for the weekend.

Takin the tranny out as well is probably easier (i think) i went thru hell gettin to all the bolts i needed to when i had to drop just the box... just take off the slave cyl. and disconnwect the starter... then drop the tail shaft.

it is an auto car. The motor is going in to a manual. But you are saying I should take out the transmission with the motor?

I need to take off the intake manifolds to get the wire harness of the engine right? and are the intake manifold gaskets reusable?

5...top one is hard as hell https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif

I did mine leaving the trani on the car, yes it's a bitch getting to some of the bolts, but taking the entire trani is more difficult. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/dry.png

I found it pretty easy to take off the tranny bolts https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/wacko.png

I also left the tranny in and found it pretty easy. But the manifold removal is what pissed me off.

Take off the intake manifolds and you can unplug the wiring harness from the engine. You can also get to the tranny bolts alot easier. You can leave the exhaust manifold on, just unbolt it from the rest of the exhaust, but you can take it off to it will free up more space. It would be best to replace the intake gaskets, but if there in good shape you can probably reuse them.

I suspect the top one is harder on the FD, it's pretty easy on the FC.

doing the engine is easier than the rear end or trans in my opinion.

scubasteve 06-01-2003 12:53 PM

hey ....UR AZZ, have you done it yet? how did it go?

Geoffman72 06-01-2003 02:49 PM

I don't recommend reusing gaskets if they have been used longer than 1,000 miles. As this one sounds like a factory engine, REPLACE THEM! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

well i decided to take of the tranny. I had to take of the intake manifold to free up some space to take out the bolts. They where not hard at all I fell on my ass trying to take out one of the bottom ones i was going to pull it so hard when i started pulling it was almost loose LOL. Well i got it off thoes tranny jacks help alot and man do these ******* trannies weight alot (AUTO). Im now in the process of taking out the engine.

1. New question I noticed that there are some diffrences between the 86 and the 88 engine like the linkage on the throttel body on the front side is diffrent. It seems like the primary butterflys on the 86 are vacume operated but on the 88 they are opened by a little metel rod with a spring on them. and on the back side on the 86 there 2 vacume nipples and on the 88 there 3??? and one know what im talking about. also where the pressure sensor is on my 88 there is anotehr sensor right next to it that is not there on my 86? there some small diffrences but any way i plan on only osing the block from the 88. I hope that everything goes well.

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683621.gif with the extra manifolds I will be doing some porting and the TB mod and since here at my work i have welding equipment and a bench press i will be making a custom intake from the tb foward https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

BTW: I cut my finger with the back of the tranny and when I cut my finger i droped if on my toe and it hurts like ****. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683637.gif

I recomend working with gloves once you got the tranny loose. and for gods sake dont drop it on your foot if you see it is falling just let it take the hit your foot is worth more than a tranny

(UNLESS IT IS THAT HKS TRANNY LOL)

Benchpressing it to reinstall it is a fun time too... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blush.png

First time I read that I thought it said you cut off your finger on the tranny, and your finger hit your foot. That would have sucked. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif
