I'm in the middle of installing the RB rear steer elim bushings, but I can't get the friggin carriers off of the car. Whacked it, yacked, pryed it. They won't friggin budge. I'm about to take an axe to them. Any words of wisdom??? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif

you need a bigger hammer

er, um, heh.

if by carrier you mean toe control hub, use of significant force is not necessary. You probably didnt press the bushings out before trying to pull em off:

after you press the bushing back, you can move things around more freely. When you go to reinstall, the tightening of the bolt will press the bushing back. The top and bottom both have a bushing pressed in that you can press out to make it easier. I've found the top one has to be pressed out a bit for removal, the bottom one makes it ALOT easier to get back on the car when the bushing is pressed out a few mm. Otherwise you fight with that ball trying to get it parallel and on perfectly, which usually is a exercise in futility.

here's what you're trying to press out a bit, basically til it's almost flush:

The deep socket is inserted slightly cocked so it catches on the edge of the bushing, it works like a charm.

there are more photographs documenting this procedure here:

Not even to that point yet. The friggin axel is stuck and I can't push it back. I'm off to aquire a puller and a really large hammer.

oh! yeah, my two jaw puller works great for that https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

I had no problems getting my toe control hubs off, but I have heard that the halfshaft is a bitch. I guess your experience just supports that general rule.

Well, I finally got them off. It took a heavy duty puller. I tightened it first with a rachet, which did nothing, then my impact gun, which also did nothing. I then found a four foot long pipe and put it on the end of my rachet and kept torqueing down on the puller. It made evil sqealing noises. Still wouldn't budge. Let it tightened up like that for a while. Came in the house and bitched to J( and Peng about it over IM. Then went back outside, grabbed the heaviest hammer I could find, which turned out to be the axe, and proceeded to talk some **** to it. I guess the axe scared it a little, I tightened it one more turn before I was planning to begin bashing on it and it finally popped.

After that ordeal, I just took the carriers over to the speed shop and had them press it in for me. I'll post spme pics soon.

sweet...now I'm not dreading the day my bushings arrive (friday). I had my hubs removed from the halfshafts by a shop when I did my 5-lug swap not too long ago, so hopefully they're not stuck real bad.
