Any suggestions to getting off an oil filter that's stuck in place?

get one of those things that women use to open jar lids etc. Im not sure what theyre called, but they are just a rubber circle with some grip to it.

Damn!!! That really worked. thanks man. This GTU is really becoming a pain in the rear. I hope the end result is what i expected it to be.

dont bother getting an FD then! LOL! merry christmas.

If that happens again you can stab the top of the filter with a screwdriver from the side and use the screwdriver to apply harder pressure against it. It shouldn't be done up that tight.

Don't stab it too low in the filter though.

I had this happen on a friends pickup one day i just bought the proper sized oil filter socket and used a rachet on it.

I'll be glad once i get this rotary thing under control. lol. i never knew an rx7 could kick my ass more than my avalanche. i tore my whole engine bay apart and put it back together on the avalanche in no time with no problems, but this small engine is giving me a run for my money. i have much respect for the rotary now. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683894.gif

You could always buy a nice oil filter wrench, I've got one that crush the filter if need be to get it off.

Uhhh, thats a little too powerful for me. lol. like i said, i'm new to the rotary scene so it'll probably take me a few months to get things worked out on this car. i plan on dropping at least 200-400 dollars a month until i get this thing the way i want it to be. My main goal is to get a jspec tII front clip or either find someone to do the 3 rotor for me. What you all think?

phinsup 12-26-2004 10:16 AM

I think an oil filter wrench is a good investment LOL

I think if you cant figure out how to get the filter off, leave the engine intact before attempting any engine swaps

goodwin74 12-26-2004 03:31 PM

well i do know basic engine maintainence, so an oil filter shouldnt be a problem. i just never seen one that took forever and a day using 4 men and a baby to try to remove this thing. lol but hey, thanks for the advice. I got it off so thats over with. the engine is up and running strong. fresh oil, plugs, wires, battery, filters, the works. i might just ride this till the engine gives up on me then think of a swap.

phinsup 12-26-2004 06:31 PM

My guess is you used the baby improperly, wrap it around the opposite direction you want to turn the filter smack it on the ass and turn.

goodwin74 12-27-2004 03:55 AM

Huh??? Okay, things are getting crazy on here. But it runs now so thats all that matters. Theres no leaks or anything. Now i can start working on the interior.

Before you crush or stab it, try hose clamps.

One or two of the screw type hose clamps will grab the filter can & give you a better grip with whatever you use.

Then you can transfer the hose clamps to the new filter before you install it.

That makes it easier next time.
