hey whats the best strut bar for a fc. I hear they help stiffen up the suspension for better response and less cabing noise.

serpent12 03-08-2003 03:15 AM

Cusco make good strut braces

Rob x-7 03-08-2003 04:54 PM

I would say if you are going to bother with one that also ties in the

firewall. MazdaTrix sells one. Not sure if there are any others out there.

if you are only getting a 2 point bar that I dont think the brand will matter.

Apex13B 03-08-2003 07:04 PM

2 point bars are useless in my opinion...the one that tie into the firewall are the only ones that work

gazellis 03-11-2003 05:19 PM

I just finished installing the one from Mazdatrix with the Firewall brace and it also bolts to the water pump bracket to stabilize the engine. I have not driven the car as of yet due to some catalytic issues but when running I do notice a change in the way the engine feels when revved. The engine feels more responsive because it is not trying move on the engine mounts since it is held still at the water pump.

Rob x-7 03-11-2003 05:36 PM

Gaz- you may end up taking the engine brace off, you will feel the vibrations in the car now when you drive. The brace I have HAD the engine brace on it and the previous owner ( Jim ) took it off because he couldnt take the vibration being trasferred to the car anymore.

By the way Jason- there is a guy selling braces that bolt to the firewall that are FC specific on Ebay, his prices seem cheap so I see no reason not to buy one of those.

gazellis 03-11-2003 06:02 PM

Thanks for the info. I will see what happens when I get it in the street.

rxpower 03-11-2003 06:09 PM

Corksport sells them for the front and the rear.

If your gonna do the front you should do the rear.

ROTARYROCKET7 03-12-2003 10:47 AM

yeah i got the greddy cause its cheap also , price wise. I found it for $87 bucks i wasted more on my sneakers lol so i dont mind and i think ill get one for the rear but let me see how the one in the front feels first. Im saving money now for my ACT stage II clutch and my 5spd tranny conversion total =$450.00 . have to put in some hours at AZ(AutoZone). Dont u just hate that commerical "Get in the zone , Au-TO zone" **** it makes me hate werking there lol https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/happy.png

Rob x-7 03-12-2003 07:27 PM

I have never been in a AutoZone.

You should see about cancelling/returning that Greddy one and getting the one that bolts to the firewall from that guy on Ebay.

ROTARYROCKET7 03-12-2003 10:18 PM

nah its already shipped and if return it there going to charge me a restocking fee (bullshit) plus i dont mind i think it will be decent good looking out though

jason

Rob rx-7 - In response to your note about the vibrations. I got the car out on the road last night. I felt no vibrations at all from having the strut brace attached to the water pump bracket. The car felt pretty good.

Actually, those on Ebay aren't that great. The Mazdatrix unit is far superior because the firewall component mounts to that big, heavy seam across the firewall using bolts. The ones from Ebay just screw flat into the firewall with sheetmetal screws...not nearly as secure as the bolt-up method. Especially, considering the type of twisting motion and vibration the bar is going to experience.

ROTARYROCKET7 03-13-2003 12:16 PM

whEN Ill put the greddy one on i post up how it feels or if i notice anything different in the cabin noise or streetability

Rob x-7 03-13-2003 05:06 PM

I would still rather have the crappy one from Ebay then a normal 2 point bar.

Maybe on a stock car there is less vibration? MazdaTrix even advises that there will be noticable vibration transferred to the car with the addition of the engine brace

ROTARYROCKET7 03-14-2003 12:12 AM

yeah i would figured that since its directly bolted on to your firewall. I was even day dreaming bout like if you get into and accident and if your front shocks got smacked or ripped apart from ure engine bay that because u have the 3 point strut bar the firewall will go right with it. I dunno i thought it was real funny as i ate my grill cheese sandwich

Rob x-7 03-14-2003 06:09 AM

I have also thought of that scenario, if my car gets hit, I want it done for, I dont want to have to fix it, lol

gazellis 03-14-2003 06:25 AM

Rob x-7 - Maybe my car vibrated so much before that I just don't notice it. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

ROTARYROCKET7 03-14-2003 10:46 AM

YEAH THAT CAN be the case. Its vibrating so much you just assume its the horsepower increasing lol. enjoy ure strut bar. Im my rx7 performance handbookby mike ancas he says strut bars are good, there not just for looks

take it through some twisties, and let us know the improvement https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif

ROTARYROCKET7 03-18-2003 04:42 PM

hey yeah i took it through some "twisites". To be honest i wasnt expecting any real handling from this peice of metal with two ends. A lot of members said it would do **** and u wouldnt feel anything but on the contrary i felt a big difference. Driving down my alley we have a course full of potholes and small crevices that when i drove down before the bar i would fell alot of bumps thumps and umps. When i put the bar on the car and i drove down i felt a big difference i wasnt feeling so much the holes or whatever. I was expecting to feel everything more now but the ride is much sweeter and it takes turns liike WHoa!!

i dont care what some of ya say i do notice a big difference in the car handling .so i am werking on getting the bars for the back after i get my tranny and myclutch.

ROTARYROCKET7 03-18-2003 04:44 PM

now i have another prob when i was tightning it the bar fell down like the angle of the middle tube and it snapped the nipple off my radiator cap so i had to put a screw in there so hold the anitfreeze from coming out tomorow im going to the junkyard to get the radiator houseing. I went to the junkyard but they closed and they let the dogs out already so i was like ****!!. I let ya know how its turns out lol

Rob x-7 03-18-2003 07:18 PM

radiator housing or thermostat housing?

There is no radiator housing? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif

ROTARYROCKET7 03-18-2003 09:56 PM

THE PLASTIC THING THAT THE RADIATOR CAPS SITS ON THAT HAS TWO BOLTS 10MM. I BROKE THE NIPPLE ON IT HOLDS THE HOSE THAT COMES FROM THE ANTIFREEZE RESOVOIR IN THE FRONT OF THE CAR. i FOUND IT AT THE JUNKYARD FOR LIKE $10 SO I MIGHT GET IT TOMOROW AFTER SCHOOL. WHEN I PUT THE BAR AND I TIGHTENED THE SCREW THE BAR TILTED DOWNWARD AND THINK THATS HOW I SNAPPED THE NIPPLE.

gazellis 03-19-2003 07:12 AM

The strut bar from MazdaTrix mentioned something about turning that type of radiator cap around so that would not happen. I had no clue what they were talking about since my car does not have the type of radiator cap with the overflow tube like yours does. Now I understand what the were saying.

I, too, notice a big difference in handling of the car. It takes corners much better, handles very well. This is all with the original springs and all original bushings and such on the car. (152,000 miles).

ROTARYROCKET7 03-19-2003 10:20 AM

Yeah i noticed increased handling. on the grand central parkway i drive 60mph coming home from st. johns university and i feel the road and the bumps. yesterday after installing the bar on my car i was driving 95 mph on the grand central and the ride home was so smooooth. the handling was better dipping in between traffic lol. I thought it wasnt going to feel good since certain members said that the two point bar did **** but it does and i really like it. Now im going to get one for the rear. i think cusco makes em.

Now i just gotta save for my cluth.

whats a mcleod clutch? nick said they make em for 7's just i never heard of em have you? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683329.gif
