I might buy an rx7 that is in pretty bad condition. There is some rust, the paint is faded, and the interior is faded to ****. I'm gonna redo the interior and put a new engine in. The funny part about this guy is he told me "yeah it has great compression!!!! 90 psi, all my fiends have like 80 this engine is perfect." But when i parked the car on the driveway with like a 2% incline i put it in first and it just rolled back. It had absolutely no resistance. The car accelerated poorly and he said it was just a loose vacuum line. The car seems more fucked up than just a vacuum seal. Well anyhow, enough of my stupid story.

Will I be able to pass emissions with a stage one streetport (10%-15% increase)? What do I need to keep the fuel mixture where i want it. I was thinking bigger injectors, fuel pump, and an S-AFC. Would that do the trick? How much boost can i reliably run with 3mm apex seals and a street port?

BTW have any of you ever tries the dash paint? It has the ugly burgundy interior. I want to paint it grey or something like that. Does that stuff ever chip or peel?

Thanks much

well a misrouted vacuum line actually can make a t2 run like that, they are very very picky about vacuum leaks. the rotary also does have less resistance than a piston engine, you can grab the ps belt and spin the engine over by hand, there are no valve springs to compress.

you might be able to pass with a small street port, but its gonna be on the ragged edge of failing. your fuel setup sounds good though. on a healthy stock fuel system you can run 10psi

i used vinyl spray on the door panels of my 1st gen, 3 years ago and so far they have held up fine. the trick is to make sure you get all of the silicon/grease/dirt etc off the dash

Would i have to change the ignition timing if i run like 10-12 psi on the street ported engine? And about the emissions, my dad's friend sells cats for many applications ao i can get the for practically free. If i were to just put on like 2 giant cats would that work? I'll be using the RB turbo back exhaust and probably have liike the two cats welded in place of the presilencer would i need to use an air pump?

i'm not sure what the total timing is on a t2, but for 10psi its ok, much more and it might not be happy.

you will need the air pump, and you might need the pre cat and a new main cat to pass.

I live in IL also, you should ideally do a compression check on the engine if you are concerned since it doesnt feel lke it has much power. If you would like it is possible that I could help you with looking at the car before you buy it, I just helped a friend buy a 88 T2 from MI for like $1600 that we're probably going to use as a drivetrain donor for a clean NA chassis. If you have the funds you might want to do the same, if the trans/diff/motor are in good shape.

I'm about 45 mins west of chicago.

I was looking at a car in the schaumburg area. IT has rust and the motor is screwed. It also need new shifter bushings. The suspensioon seems ok but i didn't really get to take it for a spirited drive. I'm hoping to get it for like $1000 and then buy my old GXL (Hit by Drunk Driver). I think it might have a J-spec TII tranny b/c my dad's friend put the J-spec engine in before i bought it off him). But I'd primarily use the car for the interior, the turbo(rebuilt last year), and what ever parts are left of the racing beat exhaust. I'm really looking for a project car and this one seems nice. Hopefully everthing goes well. If you post your phone number or email me at robmaiersg@yahoo.com i'll give you a call and we can sheck it out give me your 2 cents on the value of it and such. It's been a couple months since i've really driven a car. Anywho, I really appreciate your offer.

Thanks much!!
