Gentlemen (And ladies if any?)



It has come to a depressing part of my life…having to store my TII for the winter. Not wanting to subject my baby to a harsh Canadian winter (I live in the most southern part of Canada J) it is time for her to take a nap.



So here’s the plan (Any comments, advice etc is welcome)



My car will be stored at the top of my driveway, under a very good car cover (Water proof, breathes etc…) and will be resting on 4 jack stands. The tires I plan to leave on, but not touching the ground. On a weekly basis, the car will be started and warmed up to keep the engine “fresh” and the oil changed once during its 3-month slumber. Every chance I get to drop her and take her for a spin I will, to keep the tranny fresh. Note: I know to let my car cool, before placing the car cover back on and to keep it cleaned. I had considered renting a storage garage but a classic car buff warned me not to (acts as a sauna, once you park you car). So there’s the plan…



Also: What’s the best way to but an RX-7 TII up on 4 jack stands. The car has 4 jack pads, but where can I jack the front or rear or a side up?

I would just put them under the frame rails. You can jack the car up from the frame rails as well. I would also get a couple cans of silicone spray, and spray everything down under the hood, and the undercarrage. Not driving a car and it sitting over the winter can oxidize and rust metals fast. And try to keep the car clean under the cover, make sure the cover is fairly tight, a cover whipping around in the wind will leave marks on the paint, I had a canvas shop sew some grommets on my cover so I could tie it all nice and tight.

also make sure the oils and coolants are fresh. it would be best either to seal the intake and exhaut all winter, or drive it one day a month.

make sure the car is clean and waxed too.

i think putting it up on jacks is unnessecary, but hey i'm in california

The car cover I bought came with gromets so that I can tie it tight. All the fluid are fresh cause my motor is only 10 months old. It's been oil coated, so I shouldn't have to worry about spraying the under carriage, but maybe I will anyways... The engine, just spray anywhere? What about when I start it up, won't it burn off?



I do plan to drive it one day a month, or any nice day for that matter. As for waxing it, I plan to do that this weekend as welll a lub up all my seals. Thanks for the advice on jacking!

Some WD-40 wont hurt anything sprayed under the hood, it will protect rubber and metal from corrosion and drying out. My cover had the one grommet on each side, but I had a shop install one in the front under the bumper, and one in front of each rim but not touching the fender, I found the cover would infalte when the wind got just right, and it would beat the car up. So now I tie a rope from the 3 grommets to each other, and another one that goes from side to side under the doors that came with the cover, its one of those custom covers made just for the car. After you run the car and it cools off, spray a bit more, I didnt spray my car and the metal really oxidized last winter, but then again I live on the water.
