ok, so i had a bad starter...totally fried did nothing...



so i got a new starter from advanced, installed this new starter, turns over and acts like it wants to start, but doesn't ever get enough speed or momentum going to do so.



then, i jumped the battery, thinking it may have drained a bit while the car sat for a measly 3 days, it started right up. i drove the car around for about 10mins...hoping the battery would charge....go to start the car back up off of the jump, same crap...won't start, but will turn over all day.



it seems like the voltage being supplied it just a constant low...any ides?



btw, the battery is only 1 month old...die hard gold...shouldn't be a problem :\

check alternator charge and fuses

what fuses would control the output of the battery...or where would there be any "loss" from the battery to the starter?

I'm betting you have a weak ground somewhere near your starter. Add a nice big grounding strap to one of the starter bolts that goes through the trans and ground it to the chassis and i bet you're problem is solved.

noted. i'll be doing that tomorrow...

the main juice wire for the starter should be pretty easy to spot. just follow the positive battery wire to the post on the starter.



sounds to me like a loose connection. check the starter wires, battery wires and clean the posts. but just in case it is an alternator problem my backyard check for the alternator is as follows:



1) find and drink 6 pack

2) start car (via a jump if necessary)

3) disconnect negative battery cable while engine is running



if it dies its a bad alternator (better check your fuses before you replace it though, it could be one of those too!)... if it stays running the alternator is good and you need to check your starter/battery connections.

ok, so i have a drain somewhere...gotta check that.



what's the best way to find and fix a drain?

a drain? like a short in a wire? you'll need a multi-meter (dvom), probably a chiltons (for wire specifics), a 12 pack, and a lot of time/patience. guess the best (although kinda half assed) way to find it is to meter the battery for voltage (pos lead on the pos terminal, neg on neg), on a charged battery should be about 12-14vdc but it really doesnt matter what the meter reads as long as you can watch the voltage tick its way down toward zero(12.6, 12.4, 12.1 and so on). while the meter is still on the battery (have someone hold it there and watch it, pull fuses one at a time and see when it stops drainin. dont be fooled by certain small systems (like a radio) that use a tiny ammount of voltage to keep a memory, they will slow the voltage drop only slightly, dont pull a main fuse (like the "meter" fuse) that controls multiple systems and think its there either...



theres so much, I could go on, and on... guess the best way is to find somone with some good electrical background



thats the easy part, the bitch is narrowing it down from there and then comes the fix.
