I recently had vacuum issues with my 89 turbo II. After sealing up all the leaks now instead of the car idling rough and wanting to die but reving up and smoothing out at about 3k it starts and dies instantly. I replaced all the gaskets on the upper plenum of the intake and a few vacuum hoses. I'm not sure what i could of done other then now that it's not sucking air and it's a sealed system it is running too rich? I dont' know enough about these engines to mess too much with sensors as i don't have any diagrams or specs on them. I'm a former Honda tech and this is way different. Any help on what to check...something about tps adjustment or how to test sensors would be a great help. This car had a Jdm swap as the old motor had stuck seals. It does run so i know the compression is good.

Thanks

Check to see if the AFM is plugged in. It will do that when the ECU does not receive a signal from the AFM.

I'm not familiar with the AFM what does this stand for. Is it on the upper plenum?

It seems to be plugged in i will check the resistances of it opened and closed maybe it's malfunctioning

I checked the resistances from E2 to VC and Vs like the Diagnostic table said and i'm not getting a change in resistance across E2 and VC so i'm guessing my AFM is not working like it should. The new engine i put in did not come with the intake and that is from car when i bought it. Might explain why nothing works right. Anyone have any other opinions before i condem an expensive part?

if its bad. it definitly needs replacing. these cars are 20+ years old. might be a few more things that need replacing too...

so thats a good start.
