Would it be safe to spray a little bit of starter fluid into the throttle body(i think that's were you would spray it) to try to start my car?

NO! What is wrong with the car? Describe the symptoms please.

It turns over but it will not start. The spark plug wires are good, i dunno about the plugs. I'm going to pull the plugs tomorrow to see if they all work. I dunno if the fuel is getting to the engine or if the fuel is getting past the injectors. The guy that i got it from said when he last drove it, it was having problems with the injectors. It has been sitting for 6 years. As soon as i can get it started i'm gonna do the ATF trick. Maybe i should do the ATF trick now so i can build up compression.

P.S. I've replaces all the fuses in the main fuse box under the hood.

Wow 6 years is a long time!

Start with this and go on from there. http://rx7.com/tech/unflood-fc.html

Whatever you do it is going to take some work to get a car to start that has not started in 6 years. Good luck!

Did you drain the gas tank? Have you checked to make sure it is getting fuel to the block, have you checked for spark? You aren't going to help the situation by using startingn fluid, you need to figure out what the issue is first.

Make sure you got fuel, spark and everything still operates before you try to blow the car up.Drain out the old gas anyway possible.Put fresh gas in and test the plugs for spark. Now would be a good time to put a fresh set of plugs in too. Then try cranking on it with a NEW battery. These engines take some serious juice to start them if they have been sitting along time.Let us know how it goes.

yes, put the ATF or MMO in there before you try to turn the key, turn the engine over by hand a few times as your putting the fluid in, and let it sit for a few days and turn the engine over by hand every day.

Make sure you have that tube that goes to the intake bolted on

before you go to try to start the car, it wont start without it, dont bother with starter fluid.

I pulled a plug today and it was getting spark. The old battery is dead and i'm using the battery out of my (flame suit on) civic. I pulled the fuel line that goes into the engine and pumped the accelerator. No fuel came spurting out and i didn't hear the fuel pump working so i'm going to get a fuel pressure guage and find out if the fuel is getting past the filter. If the pump is bad i'll replace the pump and filter when i get the money. I'm pretty sure there was no gas in the tank when i got it so i put some fresh gas in it. Any other tips to help me out??

could just be a really clogged filter

spman51 02-03-2003 07:13 PM

I'm saving up now for a new pump and a new filter. It might be a little while cuz I'm a poor bastard that is still in high school.
