ok a week or so ago i bought a 1987 turbo II with 85,000 miles. it ran great for a wile. i found out that the guy before me put a FCD on it and due to emisions had to put the stock exhsust back on it. he also disconected the air pump to the cat. i hollowd out the cat to prevent them from clogging. it ran great for a wile. but i didnt do much driving around town, i was mostley driving on backroads or state highways. the first time that i had a problem was when me and my girlfreind were cashing her cheack at the bank and wile the car was idleing it stalled. the car resistantly started back up and idled very low (around 800rpm) then the vehical was very hesitant to rev up. i barly could get the car moving. once the vehical hits 4000rpm this all goes away. today... i was in town and i started the vehical up made it to the end of the street and it stalled and would not start. i pushed it off the road and puller the EGR fuse, crankit it over, and it started. it did this same hesitant running and then slowley came out of it. on the way home i had to constantly rev the engine at stop signs and lights to prevent it from sputtering and dieing. any suggestions. sorrry for the long post. PLEASE HELP ME!.
ps. i put a bov on but it was doing this before i added it. |
First just go over your ignition and check plugs.
Then look at the fuel delivery. Check if they are firing all the time of if the secondarys are on below 3,800rpm. |
how do i cheack that. sorry im newbie

800 is a pretty normal idle speed, whats it at 'normally'? it sounds like something may be sticking in your secondaries when the car isnt running at higher RPMs or speeds, maybe try running a bottle or two of injector cleaner thru the engine on your next tank

Told him to go do a basic tune-up first and check a few sensors and see where it lays. |
I thought OBDII didn't come out til like 1989 or whatever? So doesn't that mean vehicles prior to that don't really have to pass emmissions testing?

1995 and emissions were instated in 1981 but some regulations in states like cali exsisted prior.
