Let's assume I have about $2500-3000 to spend on my car over the winter. I already have the paint, wheels, etc... What I need is some power. I have a turbo that will support ~350 rwhp, so that's not an issue. Here's what I want to know:

What front mount and radiator would you recommend and where would you order it from?

What fuel pump? Will the run of the mill Walbro handle my fuel needs at ~12psi?

What size injectors if I'm hoping for 320-350 at the flywheel?

I'm thinking of going with the ACT street/strip clutch. Opinions?

Apex-i SAFC or somthing else for fuel control?

Any other mods I can't live without? I'm guessing a wide band is a must, right Vosko? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

If I need more money I'll have to sell the Subaru or something. j/k

vosko 11-07-2002 11:20 PM

umm walbro is good. hmmm you can try and get FD secondaries 850cc and use a S-afc then tune them. greddy 2 row fmic and fluidyne radiator who ever has it IN STOCK https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

act s/s is damn good.

UniqueTII 11-07-2002 11:23 PM

The Greddy is about $800 cheaper than the HK$...always a plus in my book. If I order it in February, I'll have it by May. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

j9fd3s 11-08-2002 12:38 PM

i would do the pump ($120 @k2rd), clutch (if its bad) do you have a flywheel? the fmic is cool

UniqueTII 11-08-2002 12:44 PM

The clutch I have probably won't handle an extra 50-75 hp, which is what I'm hoping to get. I don't have a lw flywheel, but I think I'd be getting an 11lb...maybe.

Where should I look for a wide-band A/F? RP has the 60mm Greddy, but it won't fit in a gauge pod. Maybe I'll have to do something custom for it.

j9fd3s 11-08-2002 12:48 PM

if you hog out a regular guage pod a 60mm will fit, but what fun is that?

a light flywheel will make the car a lot better, it gets rid of that boat anchor feeling.

Geoffman72 11-08-2002 02:09 PM

Yeah Ed, my TII is SICK with the RB 11lb flywheel, the ACT Xtreme plate and SS disc.

I would never go any heavier :bigthumg:

I was going to recommend Voskos idea for fuel, but remember, im pretty sure FD injectors are of different impedance than ours if you wanted the stock ecu to control them.

vosko 11-08-2002 03:42 PM

screw it buy a haltech and a FJO wideband i have an email address to get the FJO from its expensive but cheaper than replacing engines https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

UniqueTII 11-09-2002 04:33 PM

I can't afford a Haltech. I sure would love to have one, but I need to be realistic...unless someone wants to buy a Subaru and a mountain bike for $1200. Where would I find an F JO wideband, and can I use it without a Haltech?

FD injectors are side feed, so they won't work with a TII fuel rail, right?

Geoff...that's pretty much the exact clutch setup I want...I think you just sold me.

turborotor 11-10-2002 12:49 AM

Haltech baby. Wait a few more weeks, the E6K is goign to be a bargain since the E11 should be hitting the market soon and all the boys will want to upgrade their e6k.

C

Geoffman72 11-10-2002 01:15 AM

Go for it Ed. You won't ever look back :bigthumg:

Fastrotaries 11-10-2002 01:47 AM

can't use the Fd injectors on a second gen fuel rail......FD's are side feed. Haltech........you'll never look back, and it's the foundation for more to come.

1Revvin7 11-10-2002 11:01 AM

buy a standalone ecu...... u don't want to pop the motor.....

I'll have to keep an eye out for a used E6K. Thanks for the tip. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

I guess this is getting serious now. :bigok:

Scott 89t2 11-10-2002 01:59 PM

you don't need a wide band... just tune the car with somebody elses.

and yes haltech https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

and dam, is that a top mount oil cooler?? sweet, wonder how well that works??

UniqueTII 11-10-2002 02:07 PM

I don't know anyone around here with a wideband, so I get to be the guy everyone else borrows it from.

UniqueTII 11-10-2002 02:10 PM

I think I need to add a TID and boost controller to the list...and I need to make more money over the winter!

rotarychainsaw 11-10-2002 03:26 PM

Dont forget struts and brakes. Unless you got the 7 to handle and stop better than the scoob without telling me. lol

ya, whose car is that? but then again its not a great spot for an intercooler. why would it be better for an oil cooler?

7mech 11-10-2002 04:35 PM

J9FD3S tell us about that top mount oil cooler. We want to know how it works.

Unique TII here's my suggestions:

Go with the new GReddy fmic. The only place I've seen it so far is at www.rx7.com. Price $1078.00

Go with the fluidyne all aluminium rad. from www.absoluteradiators.com. Price $434.00

Go with either 720cc or 1600cc secondaries from either www.gothamracing.com or www.rx7.com or www.rotormotorsports.com. Price for 720cc is $127 ea and for the 1600cc w/fuel rail is $440.

Go with the Walbro or competition pump from www.gothamracing.com or www.rotormotorsports.com. Price for the Walbro is $130 and for the competition its $340(Not sure on this one).

Haltech all the way. Try talking to the guys at www.gothamracing.com. Ask for Rich and tell him that Matt and Eddie sent you.

Hope this helps a little.

1Revvin7 11-10-2002 06:20 PM

U need to search around i bought all that stuff recently at WAY lower costs, excpet for the fmic

Racer X 11-10-2002 08:05 PM

So exactly how would you extract 350 flywheel hp?Other than a fmic and a haltech with injectors?Curious,I might do a T2 engine into a FB next year.Need to find one that needs a engine first. With the haltech can you use the factory T2 harness' or do you rewire the entire engine?

Racer X 11-10-2002 08:05 PM

Can you reach 350hp on the stock T2 turbo from a Series 5 engine?

Maybe on a large ported engine. Other than that, I really doubt it.

I will let you know, If i do get a rebuilt its gonna get the BIGGEST streetport job there is. I might screw around with a used/jspec for a while till i can save about another thousand dollars... or so.

7mech 11-11-2002 02:31 AM

1 revvin7 the haltech comes with its own harness.

I just made the Scoob handle worse. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

I made a list of everything I'm going to want, and it totaled $4500. It included brakes, springs, struts, and everything I listed above, assuming I can find some stuff used/cheaper. I also have to factor in either a new tranny or a rebuild. This is going to be a very expensive project.

i have no idea, i found that car on the internet

ed: ok, you know what you want to do. i suggest doing stuff in stages, like this winter, do the clutch/tranny, and struts/springs. if you have any money left put it towards more power (bov, injectors etc)

the car will be more fun if its not apart for most of a year while you save all your money

mike

UniqueTII 11-11-2002 12:24 PM

That's what I was thinking Mike. I have to get the turbo and tranny rebuilt, so I'll at least do that and the brakes/suspension/clutch.

After that, should I get the Haltech first and then the IC/Rad. or the other way around? Or should I just keep an eye out for good prices on stuff and go from there?

that is so true, enjoy the progress that goes into the car

j9fd3s 11-11-2002 01:37 PM

i would do the ic/rad first, or hey if you find a cheap e6k....

mike

UniqueTII 11-11-2002 08:34 PM

I'll be craving boost with the new IC, but I think I can behave myself until I do the rest of the mods. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Maybe I can find a good deal on a couple of the things and get it all before spring.
