I hit a speed bump and now neither my speedo or Odo. work. while I'm driving if I push really hard on the dash the speedo works, but I cant drive like that. can anyone help me out with getting that fixed? really need to know how fast I'm going and havent driven the car long enough to guestimate. if anyone can help me would be greatly appreciated. Cheap Easy fix would be even more apreciated since I'm flat broke. lol.

Check behind the instrument panel and wiggle the wire. It should be firm and not come off. YOu can stick your hand from the bottom of the steering colum and pull on it. If it moves is loose.just gotta make sure the clip is on the right location and push it back in.

If is not that. look to see if it got pulled from underneath.

If that doesn't work check the cable, they break over time.

Check the cable connection at the tranny

I just went through this myself, the speedo cable connector came loose at the tranny and the actual cable inside got sucked out at high speed before I even knew what happened. You may also notice that your power assist steering is fucked also due to the speed sensitive components, this is all due to the missing speedo cable

I got the replacement cable from a local dealer, talked to the resident rotary guru there and he said he has been able to do the swap WITHOUT removing the dash cluster. I tried to get my dash off and then got frustrated and tried doing it by the "Stevie Wonder" method. It took a bit of careful exploration inside there BEFORE removing the old connector behind the guage. After pulling out the old crap I then had to spend a good 1/2 hour experimenting with touch only senses but I was able to make the connection. the replacement thru the firewall and back to the transmission was the easay part fer sure...

good luck!

Re: Speedo And Odometer Not Working

I don't know how a tranny plug can get fixed with a push on the instrument cluster?? Anyway, I think the dash has to come out, disconnect all the plugs & clean the contact points both on the plugs and the circuit board "plastic" fingers.
