Anybody have an opinion about speed bleeders? Are they worth the cash?

j9fd3s 12-05-2003 12:18 PM

they are handy if you need to bleed brakes by yourself

phinsup 12-05-2003 12:20 PM

I have the one man brake bleeder set, I use it although I don't think I really paid that much for them, maybe $10.00 or something. Definetely worth that amount.

I have them on my truck, but I spend alot of time pulling the axles on that, so they're worth it. If I was messing with the Seven's brakes that often, I would get them for it too.

Have you seen them on a shelf? When I bought mine, I got two at Pepboys (all they had), was told they had more on order. Well, they lied, decided to no longer stock them (this was, oh, over 2 years ago). Ended up ordering a set of Earl's from a local speedshop.

I have not seen any on a shelf anywhere but I am considering ordering a set from www.speedbleeders.com

They are $7 bones a piece though... I have seen them somewhere else for $6.50 I just can't remember where...

They sound pretty cool for the lazy man like me https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Yeah

Double check me but for an FC you'll need (2) SB7100 for the rears and (2) SB8100 for the fronts.

They are like 7 bones a piece and shipping and handling was 4 extra.

Good luck you will prolly have yours installed before I do https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png I am rebuilding my brakes on a budget so this time next year I will be road worthy https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif

Thanks for the info.. I am always bleeding ym brakes. So this will come in handy. I keep procrastinating but I think I will finally get them and intall them.

twstdmtl 12-08-2003 09:19 PM

Just FYI...

There is a coating on the bleeders. Apparently if you bleed your brakes too often this coating can come off. Speed Bleeders sells the replacement material that must be baked on. I have heard you really do not want to substitute here with teflon tape or anything else. So just be prepared to spend a little extra cash, 10 bux for a little bitty bottle. And be prepared to have to bake this stuff on so don't trash your old ones https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png good luck

Apex13B 12-09-2003 09:59 PM

if you are bleeding your brakes that often....your boiling the fluid or you have OCD... I change my pads once every 3 months on average, maybe more often depending on track time. I honestly have never had to bleed the system after a quick at track pad change. Your master cylinder has air in it if you need to bleed your brakes. Replace the master cylinder in my humble-rat bastard piece of **** opinion that nobody gives a **** about anyway.

I know someone that has quite a bit titanium in their legs because of a speed bleeder, i hate them also and bleed my brakes with a $50 mityvac that can also extract/pump gearbox and rear end oil

wanksta 12-10-2003 01:08 AM

What happened with the Ti in his leg? Did they fail resulting in an accident?

Apex13B,

Please do to tell about this fellow with the Ti in his leg from speed bleeders. What were the circumstances? i.e. operator error or mechanical failure?
