I think a cold air intake would be a great add on to our cars, but is there any space???
i have never seen it, anything we can take off or a way to do it?? |
its not really worth all of the trouble it would be to do it

I saw one where a guy had drilled a hole and ran the pipe around the radiator, and rotayman88's staged upgrade list in the FAQ said that he saw a gain of 6 rwhp on a car like that, so it just depends on if you think it's worth it.
|
would be anice breather but i dunno if its worth it to do all of that, ill just probably do that cold air box concept
|
well if you want to; take out the windsheild washer resv, then cut straight down into the brake duct, throw the filter in there. That is striaght down where the stock location is.
|
hummmm
i never thoguht of that but do you know anybody that has done that though???? and are you sure this could work??? |
then your brakes wouldn't be as cool...I'm guessing
|
yeah thats no big deal, many of the IC kits elimnate them anyhow.
|
My idea, while not an actual cold air intake in your definition, would be making a cold air box in the bay, then routing cold air from the unused ducting in the front bumper using a divider to keep the air from moving to the radiator.
Heres a pic of what I'm talking about. http://www.o-t.us/upload/guest/FC-CAI.jpg |
cut a hole in the hood and stick that bitch out, drag racer style.
|
haha, just take hood off, weight reduction too
|
I want to put one in the cowl area of the windshield.
I dont see whats wrong with the stock location, look at it, it draw cool air from the front of the car, there is a gasket on the hood to seal it off from the engine compartment, Mazda spent alot of money to put it there, a $20 filter isnt going to be better, try a new air filter first and see if you notice improvement The stock air filter draws air from the same place as the radiator, next thing you know people will be mounting thier radiators in front of the bumper thinking they can make a better mouse trap. |
another pic: not as good as that first pic though
|
i played with the air box on my gsl-se and it makes very little difference. i am going to dyno the difference eventually.

clean engine bay rob... you should strip that **** off the hood. Doesnt it reduce cooling to the radiator to not have those air deflector plastic panels in there? I was going to take mine out for more air to the filter but not if its not worth it.
|
This is exactly what I did, got rid of the washer BS, and have custom piping from the MAF
down into the fenderwell. Works awesome. |

Second engine bay is my vert. You mean the insulation? I like it there, it serves a purpose- to try to keep heat off the black hood, at least I like to think so, lol And the rubber things- without them there is too much of a gap, or are we talking about something else? I tend to go for the stock look, it may not be such a valuable car, but its getting rare to see any at all, let alone the way it left the factory, clean and original never goes out of style. |
