I need some help. Some might know my story but i'll give a brief summary. I bought this car not to long ago and it had been sitting for 3 years without being started.

Ok, i've already bought the things that I know are wrong. ECU, fuel pump, plugs, and starter. I have already tried the atf trick and the car almost started but wouldn't. I'm not sure what else to do. I put half a tank of premium in there but there is still some bad fuel in there. When I crank it over, I can smell the bad fuel.

I talked to a couple of people and they said to just crank it over for a few days and try to get the bad fuel out. Is there anything else that I should try? Please help me! Thanks.

Drain the tank, there is a drain plug to do it. Pull the fuel pump and replace the suction sock. Fill with fresh gas. change the fuel filter, while its out turn on the pump to flush the lines. Install new filter

Thanks ill try that.

Is there anything else that I should try?

Well if you did the ATF trick, ur plugs are almost guarunteed shot and fouled, replace those.

Oh Man!!! You guys are the greatest!!!! I drained the old gas out and put new plugs in and after a few good turns, IT STARTED!!!!! Thank you guys sooooo much for the help! I'm so stoked 'cause this is the first rotary i've worked on and I got it to start!

THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!!! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683894.gif

F##k, I got here to late, lost another one to Drunkin Idiot!

It's cool dude. Maybe you could tell me how I can adjust the timing. Now that it's running, it runs a little rough and I think it may be the timing. Thanks.

drunkin_idiot 01-21-2005 08:28 PM

correct me if im wrong, connect a timing light to the main leading plug wire, and they should be a little pin right above ur main pulley and a yellow mark on the main pulley, turn the crank angle sensor until those line up, make sure ur car is at normal operating temp before you do this.

89gxl 01-21-2005 08:32 PM

O.K. I'll have to look tomorrow morning cause it's to dark to see anything. Where can I get a timing light? R they expensive?

Thanks again!

drunkin_idiot 01-21-2005 08:37 PM

You can get a timing light at any auto parts store, Ive had one for a while, dont remember what it cost

TheRiseOfTheFerret 01-22-2005 12:14 AM

They're pretty cheap, go to autozone or advance auto parts, they should have some. I dont want to under-estimate but I'd say its under 50 prolly more like 25

Seppuku 01-22-2005 11:04 AM

How exactly is it running could be something else?

drunkin_idiot 01-22-2005 04:38 PM

Yes like Seppuku said, how is it running? Is it idling ok, starting ok, running ok period, there could be another culprite.

Lionheart240 01-22-2005 05:20 PM

Is there a way to manually adjust the fuel pressure? I run at 46psi...I have a vortech FPR, RC Engineering injectors, and Walboro 255lph..

I am trying to have my friend find the disc to lower the fuel pressure on the FPR, it's the kind where you have to change the entire disc to lower the fuel-pressure.

But if I take it out...any suggestions on how to lower the fuel pressure if it doesn't change?

drunkin_idiot 01-22-2005 05:29 PM

Isnt that what an FPR is for, to adjust and regulate fuel pressure?

It idles good but the car shakes a bit and when you bring it to redline, it doesn't want to idle. you have to rev it up to 3 a couple of times then it will be ok. It also idles at like 600 rpm. Is that too low? It may also be some bad fuel cause when I drained the tank, I only drained part of it. I figured the bad gas was on the bottom and the good gas I put in it was on top.

Another problem I had was this morning I woke up and went outside to start it up and it took for ever to start. When it did, it reved to 2500 then died. I could keep it running but I would have press the pedal to the floor. I finally just quit. Maybe b/c it was just cold cause this morning was really cold.

Seppuku 01-23-2005 08:32 PM

the redline issue sounds like tps, get it set and should have no problem. The cold issue could be vaccum leaks. Idle should be 750-800.

89gxl 01-24-2005 11:55 AM

Where is the tps and what should I do to fix it?

89gxl 01-25-2005 09:36 PM

I started it up today and it began to run extremely rough! It took me forever to start it and when I finally got it to start, it would rev up to 2000rpm then die. I was able to keep it from dying by pressing the gas pedal halfway until it reved up. After doing this for a while I guess it warmed up and stopped reving but when it would idle, the car shook madly and it constantly backfired! Do you think this is the timing or still the tps?
