Ok its winter so I put my car away in the garage for the winter. Today I went out to start it, just to get it warm. I do this once every other week. Its been freezing cold lately.

Ok, today when I tried starting it, it started but it was running really rough. Kinda like a 4-cyl not getting spark on one cyl. But when I would rev it up it would sound completely normal, but if i held it at a certain rpm it would just keep puffing. I have truel duals, and I could watch as both of the tips blow and puff. Try to imagine this sound....Puff Puff Puff Puff, just as fast as u can say it, or slow, thats how the exhaust came out. But when revved up quickly it would sound so smooth.

Plz someone help me. Just a thought, could the condensation in the gas tank cause water to run in the fuel and cause this? or frozen line? but why would it run smooth when revved?

Thanks for any help

alot of misfiring problems either go away or are masked at higher rpm. check all the standard stuff, make sure its sparking on all plugs and all the injectors are firing or you could just not worry about it till spring.

yea but spring is so far away, and I worry all the time about my car. Tomorrow i'll grab some new plugs from work and come home and check it out

On cold starts, I have to rev it up to like 3,000RPM for like 5 seconds to burn up all the fuel that's been sitting in the motor, otherwise it will just die. Instead of having hella starting problems, that's me and my cold start for you.

If I rev it too hard too fast it will stutter, because there's too much fuel. It sounds similar in your case. I say..don't pay it any mind, just rev it lightly, let it warm up, and then drive it for a few minutes or so if u can. I doubt it's anything serious.

Alright!!! My car is back to shooting flames and running smoothly.

Can someone explain to me why this happens? I mean the whole puff puff idle. I started my car and just let it run crappy like this, and when it got to operating temps, I revved it up and it shot a humongous flame and ran smoothly. While it was running crappy, it was smoking alot, and i smell fuel everywhere. Do 2gens just run really rich before they reach operating temps? and i'm sure the cold has something to do with all of this.

Yah the do run rich, period! These cars run rich at any operating temperature.

Ohh ya and Lionheart, I have to do the same thing everytime I start it.

Alright I figured it out. I'm pretty sure it was the oil. Since i've stored my car it still had 20w50 in it. So today before I started it I changed the oil to 10w30. And it fired up right away, and sounded healthy right away. So i'm sticking to that conclusion. And I have cold start removed so i also have to hold the gas.
