When i first start my recently purchased 1991 7 (non-turbo) https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

i notice that it revs to around 4 and then falls rapidly and if i don't keep on the gas it will die.

also the idle is rough even with the engine warm and it smokes if revved high on startup (hence the smokes on startup) or sometimes when warm. if anybody knows anything that i can do to fix this please tell me.

ps a mechanic said that i needed high performance plug wires (70+) but i had just bought a 30$ set from advanced auto parts. and why would this affect the smoking? thanks

Have you tried raising the idle with the adjustment screw? The cars are supposed to rev to about 3K on startup for emmissions. When you tap the gas pedal the idle should go down to about 1500 RPM. If not then your fast idle cam may not be working properly.

on initial startup same thing 13BAce said. you will get some smoke on startup that is normal. as long as you don't get any while the car is warmed up your good to go https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

If that thermal wax pellet thing was removed then the car will die when it's cold, unless you hold on the gas. At least that's what I was told.

The thing about the wires is bullshit as well, NGK wires are fine, and dont even cost that much. Try to find a rotory friendly mechanic in your area, and make good friends with him. ( im attaching a pic to test to see if it comes up smaller )

Yes, with the stock ECU and without the fast idle cam the engine will die when cold.

If you need good plug wires, get some Magnecor from www.mazdatrix.com They're pretty cheap and work really well.
