OK sorry to bug with all the amatuer questions.

I have got a sloppy stick https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/boink.gif

No really there is an inconsistent distance between all my gears as far as the shifter is concerned. 1st gear is in the left field, 2nd gear might as well be under the seat, 3rd actually on the radio... I hope you get the point.

I haven't looked to see what it is yet maybe I'll do that this weekend, if the weather permits. I am thinking though that it could be a linkage or a bushing. Has anyone had this silly S**T happen to them?

if its in neutral and it wiggles around like crazy....you need new bushings.....get them at mazdatrix.com

shifters pivot on a joint slightly lower than midway down the stick. id pull the boot up and center console checking there for a problem. i really dont know just assuming its not a tranny issue

Yeah, its totally this little round pivot plate thing. All you have to do is lift up the boot and check it out. In My car, it does the same thing after a while of driving, because i am missing one of the three bolts to the pivot. There are three, and most likley they are loose, they need to be pretty tight in order to have the shifter perform right. Its almost definatley not a 'tranny' thing, Possibly new bushings, but Im pretty sure its that pivot.....

If you do anything to the shifter, just get new bushings anyways. It makes a dramatic difference and it's not expensive.
