Well, about 2 months or so ago... one of my Headlight Motors went ka-putt! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/ohmy.png
So, i did what most other people would... but in a different style (so called Drift Style) I manually put my headlights in sleepy eye mode. (up about 3 inches or so) Do you guys think this is 'cool'? or should spend the 50 bucks and find a working motor... so it looks like an Rx-7 again. Granted it doesnt look bad.. i get some compliments... but... i dunno https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/wacko.png I would just like some opinions |

call a local starter/alternator rebuilder and I bet they can rebuild those motors you have for about $30 and they will be rebuilt and not 15 year old
used motors that you are going to pay $50 for. |
i like robs suggestion.
also, make sure it's really the motor and not just the wiring/connector/relay. wrt the sleepy eyed thing, https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/gotrice.gif https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif |

I used to be a midnight auto shopper back in the day.
Call and frequent your local shops, I have always said it is better to get good local contacts. In these internet crazy days no one uses the good old phone book or local contacts anymore. I never knew the rebuilder did window, headlight, sunroof and top motors until I needed one done. Unless its a sealed unit, but those arent. Same thing for a starter/alternator, its better to get one from them, they usually rebuild the whole thing and offer a good warranty, plus they KNOW what they are doing and wont give you the wrong part, thier prices are lower then the auto parts stores, remember, they do this for a living and supply the other guys with it, so you are knocking out the middle man. Transmissions, tires, I always like locals, they will beat/match prices and at least if something goes wrong you can go and talk to someone in person instead of mailing and Pay Pal'ing money and parts back and forth |
i did that , i had a local shop rebiuld my starter, alternator, and headlight motors for about 150 for all if them and they guarantee the work for 5 years, scumbag junkyard right by my house wanted 75 for each headlight motor, no guantee that they worked

so nobody likes sleepy?
|
Geez guys https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.png I only did it cause my motors 'died' I didnt know what else to do.. And than i though it would look like crap if i just left them all the way up. Like Suds said.. So no one likes Sleepy eyes?
|
I think the sleepy look it ok, but only if your car is all
done up. If your car is stock, I would get the new or rebuilt motor. BUTTTTTTTTTTTTT to tell you the truth if for some reason or some time you want to flash someone, your going to be SOL, and then you will have to reset your working one. Depends on what you like man...... I was going to do it on my FD, but only because im just not a huge fan of pop-up lights but I also dont like sleek lights much either, incase you didnt notice im a little pickey. ANYWAY I was going to do the sleepy look too but decided to just get some good fog lamps and leave my pop-ups down. |

This rice thing has gotten into to many peeps heads. Just cause you do it does not make it rice. If he was cruising around with his neon lights and stickers all over, thats rice.
As for the look...i like it. Like jason said though, it does look better on a car that has some work done to it. Shawn |
well, externally i have nothing done to my car. no rims.. no stickers, not even any badges (besides the ones on the fenders)
my rims are very clean and shiny.. and i do have intake an exhaust. does making my headlights sleepy turn me into a ricer? because we all know.. the FC is not by any means a ricer.. (Civic) bumble bee farting in a bath tub... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/cool.png |
I kinda like the sleepy look, any pics? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Its when you over do it, that ruins the look of the car which you have stated you have not done. By doing the headlights into the sleepy version your not ruining the look of the car, just giving it a lil character. Now if you put stobe lights in there also to make it look like it was winking, I'd have to slap you. HAHA |
for the record, I never said rice, I just said I didnt like it.
If I seen someone driving down the road like that I would just think thier headlight motors were broken. |

If I seen someone driving down the road like that I would just think thier headlight motors were broken. And I never mentiond that your idea was great one, if he can get the cash together to fix it. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif |
my first car was a trans am, 6 months after I got it one motor stopped working, funds were low and I felt money could be better spent on other things, I used to get out and manually raise the headlight at night, then leave it up all night and lower it in the morning, lol. Good thing I didnt fix it, I ended up smashing that side of the front of the car anyhow, lol
|
dont do the sleepy style, it willlook like its broken,
look around in e bay, i've seen a few used motors there for sale |
But it is broken https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png
Sorry bro, I couldnt help that one... relisys190---Do what YOU like man. There is always different opinions. Opinions are good and you can base your decision on them if you like. Remeber when you ask here, it doesnt mean everyone will say YIPPY go for it. If you have a nice set of wheels and your a little low, thats enough for me to say go for it. If you have stock rims, stock height(HIGH) and your 100% all the way around. Make a good decision and say FIX IT, otherwise I have seen a few different cars here including but not limited to the FD, FC, MR2, 180sx (240sx) etc............ some of them look good, some look rice, some make me want to ask `are you going to fit your lights` hehe Good luck with your decision and either way you go throw up some pics.. |
thanks for the insight JT

Personally I really dislike the sleepy eyed thing. If you dont like the pop ups, buy/make a flush light kit. And I dont want to hear any, "well I'm poor blah blah", you picked the wrong car to buy if you are poor. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

If you dont like the pop ups, buy/make a flush light kit. I've been looking for a flush light kit. The only one I've been able to find is the Bear kit, and it's not on the top of my list. What other options are there, and where can they be found? |
Geoffman72: And I dont want to hear any, "well I'm poor blah blah", you picked the wrong car to buy if you are poor.
damn skippy dude! AJ |
lol... true that dude.. if you broke... dont buy an Rx-7.. like a hot blonde. very high maintence... but when their running good, you love em'
